Howard T is way too good for that sorry politard crowd, wherever they might crop up.

The bounty specifies no posting in Politics Unchained. Last I checked there wasn't even a Politics Unchained forum anymore, though at this rate ATF will be Politics Unchained soon enough and Didace can claim the reward.

but what is a forum if not the posters and content it consists of?

makes u think

I would just think an honorable man would reflect on the spirit of the offer and not weasel out on a technical reading. Of course HT is a lawyer so what ya gonna do?

wtf technically correct is the best kind of correct. It's why I'm never wrong.

As of this moment, the bounty is officially extended to any politics-related forum, including the ATF forum I've been posting in for the past few days. I do understand that this creates a mild additional ambiguity but, as Ted Kennedy always said, we'll drive off that bridge when we get there.

I appreciate OOT's efforts to make me a better person.

We do need more good OOT threads.

OOT politics thread?

I'm sure that another D-list celebrity will die soon to solve this problem.

I just want to embrace a moment of solidarity with Howard.

I grew up as a teenager thinking one way, and as I grow older my thinking has matured and I have come around to believe many of the same things that Howard does.

People have inquired with me before about an OOT politics thread, and it just isn't happening. If there was functionality where only certain people could see a thread (say 500 posts in OOT and registration date before 2012) then maybe it would get considered, but in the current form of the forum there's just no way.

Plus, it would be a magnet for Low Key. And no one wants that.

I assume Larry will temp-ban me with glee if I stray over the no-politics line ITF.

And it never should. There are not one but two other subforums devoted entirely to politarding, let's keep all that crap over there.

Howard - you should structure your bounty as a $10 reward for any political post anywhere on 2p2, claimable only in $100 blocks, with all accrued unclaimed rewards resetting to zero at the start of each calendar year. Enough people will bumhunt you that it'll be spread out enough such that you'll probably only have to pay out about $3k annually and should keep your problem in check while still allowing you to have some release. The $10 mini bounties should be transferable so we can enjoy the resulting marketplace and deals.

This reminds me of a thread I was thinking of starting in OOT. A behavioral modification thread where all participants pick a behavior they want to change, and agree to toss $10 or whatever into a common pool each time they do whatever it is they want to stop doing. At the end of a year, all the money is donated to charity. The charity(ies) can either be something good or something bad, depending on how we want to be incentivized.

Have been thinking about starting that for a while but have had decision paralysis because there are so many ways to implement it.

One way would be for everyone who participates to make their intro post include the behavior, the amount per behavior, and a charity they hate. This allows people to widen their range of behaviors because they can pick one they know is fairly common and reduce the amount accordingly.

Another way would be the above, except we all jointly pick a charity at the end of the year, good or bad. I dislike "good" charities here because it creates the wrong incentive.

My favorite version of this idea includes some degree of mandatory crossbooking, which creates more emotional investment and more incentive for holding people accountable and helping to reduce/stop the behavior. Could also create some sweet trolling opportunities. Also could induce sleeper agent crossbooks from people who support the enemy charity.

An example:

Howard Treesong
behavior: making a political post on 2p2
amount: $10

El Diablo
behavior: usage of "!" in >5 posts/day
amount: $5

Yakmelk
behavior: drinking >300ml Heineken/day
amount: $10

SGT RJ
behavior: referencing either her back, or her time in the army
amount: $5

add in a mandatory crossbook of $1 min for all participants, with a minimum of at least 5 crossbooks or similar. Now it costs Yak $1 any time Howard makes a political post, so he is incentivized to keep Howard in line (gl with that, Yak), SGT RJ wants to break the ! key on ED's computer, ED is trying to find better things for Yak to drink, etc. But maybe Howard secretly loves Yak's hated charity so he starts sending him free Heinekens in the mail. There is a lemon cake precedent here. A cap on crossbook losses is fine, given some people are certainly gonna go off the rails.

obv everything is done on the honor system and no money ever changes hands between the participants, but screenshots of EOY donations are mandatory.

If there is enough interest in this, I'll write everything up and make the thread. If this is a moronic idea I'll stfu about it until my next moronic idea comes along.
06-30-2017 , 07:15 PM
I'm indifferent as between those three. Nash equilibria!
06-30-2017 , 07:17 PM
sniped Howard, yes!

if people are stuck on ideas for behaviors to change, there are a lot of basic decent ones like staying under X kcal/day, spending less than Y hours on the internet/day, saying at least one nice thing to someone else each day, refraining from being mean to anyone for the day, etc
06-30-2017 , 07:19 PM
If I designate my hated charity as the DNC, does that count as a political post?
06-30-2017 , 07:22 PM
you're starting to catch on
