06-20-2017 , 04:27 PM

Is the rainbow on the bottom on purpose? It has to be. On one hand, pretty. On the other hand, not ideal sort order somewhat tilting.

Must be, has Clash of Kings, A Feast for Crows and a Storm of Swords on three separate shelves.

The other thing over here is that you would almost always start as an assistant professor. You would be on tenure track, but have no permanent job security for a few years until you pass your tenure review and get promoted to associate professor, which can be very stressful for people who aren't that motivated to get funding, do research and publish.
It depends here strongly on a personality of a prof, if you have to call him/her with all titles or not. I am in just "Frau Lapka" camp. I have lectured before and I did organize some funding. I had what is called here post-doc position.

In Germany it is very similar with prof jobs. I could get this one only because it is at university for applied sciences (Fachhochschule). This kind is easier to get than at a "pure" university and they actually want people with industrial background. After more than 10 years in the industry outside of pure academics, it would be completely impossible for me to score a prof job in pure academics. And I have few publications, so that the administrative commission have accepted me directly for tenure and I will have immediate job security. I had to read a test lecture. That was a big deal to get acceptance and support from the student committee. But that is for me rather easy part. The difficult thing for me is now to find possibilities and to apply for funding. I have enough routine that I just make myself do it, but it is so not a fun part of this job.

But generally you are right. Another 5 years in the industry would completely close for me this possibility. If I don't take it now I won't take it ever.

Good point for my list of things I want to clarify with mickey mouse company before making any moves.

I didn't know how this works in Germany until today. I can get pretty detailed info on any company for as little as 50 Euros. So the info is not public, I would have to pay for it, but it is there. Probably it has some advantages for them to disclose their financial info in some form.

How many years away are we from a cocktail remake with Tom cruise as the older guy?

ETA: no poker in OOT...dead ringer for Lovie Howell from Gilligans Island is on a massive heater. Truly a sight to behold

No pics? No name? That's the kind of bad posting I'd expect from she who shall not be named itt.

Or are you talking about some rando at your table

This is an amazing idea, and would brilliantly replicate the Hustler->Color of Money path. I feel like if I were a Hollywood INSIDER I could just take this to the bank and print money.

Cruise is 13 years older now than Bryan Brown was when Cocktail was made.

I was at a conference dinner recently, and I was talking about 80s movies with the woman next to me. She was saying that she had recently watched Risky Business with the family, and she was just gushing with how much they liked it. I used to love that movie (and the Porsche), but I haven't seen it in forever.

So now I need to watch Risky Business, Cocktail, and Color of Money in the very near future.

Also, speaking of Bryan Brown, F/X was awesome.

And Gina Gerson was (is) astronomically hot.

I take your word on this, but he certainly doesn't look it.

Trying to remember others but it's been a long time. Hopefully someone who's been there more recently or lives there will come along to help out.

Denver dining has come a long way in the last 8 years.

Cap grille and sushi den still legit for high end. Pasquinis is red gravy Italian garbage (sorry bgp)

Other awesome players on Denver fine dining these days: Acorn, fruition, table 6, rioja

Mid range check out Root Down, steubens, sassafras, Euclid hall

Great Chinese (Lao wang noodle, kings land dimsum) and pho scene (pho duy, pho 79) as well as like a million great taquerias for eating on the cheap.

I went to Casa Bonita when I was 8 and remember it being pretty cool.
