I've been collecting first editions for a few authors. Sometimes I run across one that's way underpriced, so feel obliged to buy it.

The inconsistent height kind of annoys me, but I don't have enough colourful paperbacks to fix it. That it's hard to find things is fine as mostly they aren't books I'd reread, so may as well make the most of it.

I officially occupied a new apartment on the 6th of this month. Did the move-in inspection with one of the leasing agents and they were pretty thorough with lots of pictures/notes. As far as I know, there wouldn't be any pictures of what I'm about to describe

Had a couple weeks of cross-over time between the old apartment and the new one, so yesterday was my first night in the new apartment

Tonight I noticed a dent on the top of the refrigerator. Looks like a previous tenant dropped something heavy on it, definitely beyond normal wear and tear

I don't care at all, but also don't want to get dinged for it when I move out. Should I bring this up to them now? (lease states I only have 48 hours from move-in to report any damages)

On the one hand, if I report it now, they could technically deny it, make a note of it, and plan to charge me for it when I move out. I fear pointing this out since I'm beyond my grace period. Of course they could also update the move-in inspection in good-faith but that would require them to make an exception to the lease. I have a good rapport with the leasing office and they seem to like me and be happy that I've moved in, feel like they'll give me as much wiggle room as anyone

On the other hand, I could not report it and hope it goes unnoticed again when I move out. There are obvious risks in that strategy

Thoughts?

So the question is, what has greater risk? Reporting now, or hoping nobody notices? The upside is basically the same, the downside is basically the same, so it probably doesn't matter what you do.

I'd report now as I'd assume all parties are acting in good faith. At least you'd find out right now if that isn't the case, rather than a year down the line.

I def report now as well, cant have that swimming around in your head everytime you use the fridge.

To within at least two standard deviations, if somewhere has more than a dozen menu options, it sucks.

I think the possible exception is Italian restaurants

Yeah no kidding

Sci,

In general I agree, but this is a sandwich shop that will make whatever. They just happen to make up silly names for a ****load of combinations.

I went with the 111. Menage a Trois, add mozzarella sticks and onion.

E.l Di.a.blo's been kind of soft since he fake retired from 2+2 years ago but his need for M's soap opera to continue is creepy and persistent.
06-22-2017 , 12:04 AM
I've always imagined him like a POC Henry.
06-22-2017 , 01:05 AM
El D doesn't remind me of Henry at all. Not that I've seen much of him, Henry that is.

M is a uniquely frustrating poster, I don't blame anyone for being drawn to that disaster

We have read many of the same books. Caro's book on the 1948 senatorial election that LBJ won is as god as The Power Broker.

I've never read Patrick O'Brian. Worth it?

I think I have to wait a year or so between reading books as dense as the Power Broker, there's just too much there. I'll definitely pick up some of his other stuff one day though.

Although they feel like Dad Books to me, Patrick O'Brian is good. It's incredibly geeky, using tons of nautical terms and just assuming you already know them. It's kind of an adventure story, except bad things happen to the 'good guys', the story rarely goes quite as you expect, and there're tons of Chekov's gun moments that are simply bluffs by the author. It makes it all feel pretty real, and there's a ton of in-depth character study. It's well worth picking up the first one to see how you feel about it.

Been at jury duty for 2 mins and i'm already off the charts annoyed

jmakin you are probably the smartest person there so don't abandon things. Do your duty, you'd want yourself on the jury if you were in there.

I dont think i'm really capable of lying inside a courtroom under pressure so if they pick me, whatever. I do have a criminal record though

Sheriffs deputies are such douches. It must be a job requirement.

You should already know them

Nearly noon and they've only called about 30 people. I was one of about 50 called back after lunch. Everyone else gets to leave

****

This is probably the worst system that has ever been invented
