The best way to avoid scorpions in AZ is to not look for them. If you seek, you shall find.

I had a month long rental at a house along a greenbelt in Austin way back.Owner was in shock when I told him I killed a scorpion. He wanted me to scoop it up and throw it outside or some some ****.

Spoiler:
I hate killing spiders and roaches, may go vegan this year if my body can handle it.

Shuffle stop stepping on everything, jesus.

Does anyone go camping in these scorpion-laden areas? Sounds like a recipe for unpleasant times in the tent.

I understand why lizards live in sunny Arizona. Why people do and call it home I'll never understand

Do you understand why people live in areas where it's 2 degrees all winter but nice in the summer? From September-April the weather is amazing. Some people prefer their "bad weather" to be 115 and sunny as opposed to -5 and snowing. It's 111 here right now. I just got back from golfing and am now in the pool. Arizona summers ain't that bad.

No one will ever convince me that 111° "ain't that bad".
07-10-2021 , 08:04 PM
It really isn’t that bad once you get used to it. I’m sure it’s the same in the extreme cold.

IMO, we only have one truly miserable month and that is August.

but it's a dry heat, one that immediately evaporates your sweat so you don't even know your sweating....or dehydrating, or slow roasting your brain in your skull.

I hate excessive heat and tend to be a big wuss in it, but the desert heat really is less oppressive than what you encounter everywhere else.

I thought my biggest issue living in Las Vegas would be the heat, as I'm partial to the cold and rain of the NW. And while it ain't great, I really don't mind it so much. To the point that my car AC went out last autumn, and I still haven't gotten around to dealing with it. Driving around in the 117 heat with front windows down.

Good example of what a lazy, avoidant POS I am.

Its almost certainly something simple that Jiffy Lube could handle, and in a jiffy!

Do you crack the back windows?
07-11-2021 , 01:05 AM
No sir

Hence Death Valley!

I discovered years ago that if you open just the front windows, two things happen. The air coming in the window constantly smashes into the side of your head, and the faster you go the worse it gets. It also sometimes creates this condition in the cab where the air pressure ****s with your ears.

If you just crack the back windows, both conditions go away and your airflow becomes a gentle breeze. Next time you're on a freeway, crack them while you're driving and your mind will be (un)blown.

I think this is heavily dependent on the individual car. If I open the back windows a little bit, the buffeting is pretty intense

Bighurt- "I'd like three Wendy's double stacks please"

"Sir, our power just went out, we can't cook anything right now"

Was less a serious response than a Robert Earl Keen lyric. Guess he's less popular than I realized. Good song, though! Good songwriter, check him out.

My fave REK song:

That lyric blew right past me, and I've been a huge fan since '86 or so when he was playing clubs with a $3 cover charge.

If you get a chance to see him live, pass. Saw him a couple of years ago and his voice is shot. Sad to see & hear. And with his sense of humor and delivery, his live performances were terrific.

[My username derives from a Steve Earle song that I first heard at a REK performance.]

My heat tolerance is being put to the test. Home AC started to ***** out last night, and now its 99 degrees inside. Just drenched sitting on hot toilet seat. No service people available today. ****!

Animals sprawled out on tile. I suppose only thing to be done for them is to make sure there's plenty of water?

Get yourself to a hotel! That isn't healthy for you or the critters.

What Az said. Do it for the dogs.

If nothing else, maybe you can put some cool water & ice in the tub, let them splash around a bit.
