Just noticed that lbr started this thread. Was thinking about him while driving across the American West the last couple weeks, imaging that one of the big ol' trucks I was passing was him & dog.

lbr, if you're reading: I saw several double and some triple-trailer trucks out there. Is there special licensing above normal CDL to be able to drive those big ones?

i'm obviously not lbr, but i do know longer combinations like doubles and triples require separate endorsements for each. i believe they are called something like LCV double and LCV triple

Yep, I know there's the written test but I dunno if they see if you can hook them up too. I don't really know how they do that without a spotter.

I use to see those FedEx doubles crashed every winter on Vail Pass.

sounds like you've been driving OTR for quite a while now, curious what state you have as home base?
if you're interested in exploring alternate employment, i have a good friend who owns a well established trucking company in the PNW that does short and long run OTR as well as milk run stuff. not sure if they're hiring right now but my guess is they are based on the look of exasperation on his face every time i ask him how business is doing.
