I'm currently staying in a decent nationwide chain hotel ( hint: they are partnered with Caesars). It is a four-story building. I am on the third floor. As soon as you get off the elevator, it smells terrible. Terrible as in, it legit smells like raw sewage.

The smell is not nearly as bad in the room. The room smells like a strong cleaner, more so than a normal clean room. Which makes me believe someone here knows something.

There is no way the housekeeping crew is unaware of this smell, unless it came right before I checked in at 4 PM.

The first front desk attendant that just got off acted like they had no idea what I was talking about and didn't seem to care.

I just walked by the front desk and I let the new overnight attendant know about the smell. She seemed surprised and wrote down my concern and room number.

Some of you may know I keep my weekends busy owning a tiny cleaning cleaning company, and nothing grinds my gears more than people walking into a room and finding the most ridiculous stuff to pick apart in hopes of getting a discount or whatever.

IMO, this is a little different. I do not have a very good sense of smell, am masked up and the smell of literal feces is all I can smell. I can feel it burning my eyes.

Keep in mind, this hotel is completely sold out and the cheapest room is north of $275. I cannot be the only person that smells this.

In my uneducated opinion, there has to be a sewage loss somewhere. I explored the 2nd and 4th floor hallways and you can definitely still smell it, but not as bad as the 3rd floor. You can't smell anything on the first floor/lobby just the strong cleaner smell.

Part of me thinks the owners know about it and are trying to mask the smell the best they can to get through the holiday weekend until it can be addressed.

Would you seek some sort of discounted rate for tonight and tomorrow assuming it is not addressed?

I don't really need the room (or any room tomorrow night) but wouldn't mind staying an extra night.

FWIW, I left another hotel this morning because it was a complete dump. Sweaty sheets, roaches in shower, etc and didn't ask for anything because it was a small mom and pop motel that told me they flat out didn't care about my feelings or online reviews. I just booked it as a loss because I didn't read the reviews first.

What's my play here OOT? If it matters, I am a Diamond member in their system and stay at this chain's hotels roughly 3-6 nights a month.

You definitely should recoup something for inhaling feces all night.

Now that I think about it, the owner's of this particular property are clients of mine. They are pretty cheap. Going through corporate may be my only option. I don't really care if I lose the business from this particular client and I'm not staying here again tomorrow night unless the situation is resolved.

Update: When I woke up, the cleaners were hard at work and it didn't smell nearly as bad in the hallway. Presumably they are spraying stuff to cover the smell.

Meh, I'll probably stop back there after the bonfire and see what the deal is.
