I don't really have any and if I did they have all come true. Harder to get gigs. Harder to be appreciated. Harder to make $ etc etc. The thing is...I have received so much already...Seen so much...Has so many great experiences...I mean even if it all 100% ended right now I still got to do and see and experience so much. So yea, I don't really think I ever had any fears.

I did start playing poker and then got good (or at least good enough at it) to make decent $.

Dj ing was a hobby that turned into something I could make real $ with. Poker was exactly the same. I think I could make even more $ playing poker if I was not such a BR nit / Did not cash out as much as I have. Poker is not the subject here tho.

A general fear for me may be that I am SO not a 9-5 type person and don't want a boss...I like just doing my own thing. I feaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar having a "normal" job.

Yeah these types of events go hand in hand w drug use. I mean 80% + of the room is high on something or other. Hard to feel a vibe in such a massive room but a pill will help . Glad you enjoyed the mix. Seems like u want to feel something a bit more "real". I'm sure there are good parties where ur @ just gotta look for em.

In your opinion what is the best way to learn and start mixing and making your own beats? Basically I love house music and I would love to try and get into it a bit more but I have no idea where to start...

My only honest answer is...And might sound corny but...Just do it! There are so many mediums out there now that allow anyone with any budget to just give it a try. If you wanna try it just do it . Best way to "learn" is to just try and go from there...Weather it be on CD decks or a virtual platform. You can prob rent a mixer and 2 tbles and see how it feels. That's what I first did.

Ty. The funny thing about vocals is I never used to play them and never really wanted to as vocal house was really not my thing. As time went by tho more and more started "naturally" finding there way into my sets. Then I began to timestretch lots of accapellas in my studio and play those over tracks. I'm still not turned on by allot of typical vocal house but some vocal tracks after you give them a few listens you realize are actually really hot. Helps when they have something to say. Standard vocal house ie divas screaming about love or lifting you up or wtv I'm not at all into for the mostpart.

I have always tried to be technically solid and make sure everything snaps into place nicely and makes sense. To me a large part of being a good DJ is about being technically solid because that way...Those "in the know" can appreciate it more and thus become more accepting of some of the **** I might randomly throw into a set...And those just on the floor...Well...If you are doing what you are doing well...People just generally tend to get into it more and more as you keep telling your story even if they were less accepting at the beginning because they were not so used to what you were playing at first.

You want the floor to trust you...I find if U can really really play...You can get most crowds on your side even if they are used to 90s euro house or wtv . Does not always work obv but I have had gigs in places where they wanted nothing to do with the stuff I was playing for the first 30 mins...Started kinda moving around an hour or so into my set...And were going ape**** by 1 hr in till the end. Sometimes u just have to drop that one 80s tune remix and then you have them in the palm of your hand. That's not exactly skill tho

LA does have massives on the regular. Allot of major cities do though. What is lacking are some smaller consistent nights but that seems to be picking back up a bit.

All I'm saying is that for massive raves and EDM in general, L.A. is definitely the place to be in America. Raving is more mainstream in LA than anywhere else. Miami has Ultra and New York has Electric Zoo but those are only once a year, and more of music festivals than raves.

The club scene is pretty big too, there are big-name DJs playing gigs every weekend..

I know nothing about DJing but I used to be into the house club scene so sorry if this is a stupid question

Do you have a "plan" for what you're going to play or do you just go by feel?

Also I find the kind of music has a more subtle tension/release dynamic than the type of stuff played in the main rooms and so requires a little more musical knowledge from the listener, ie. people who don't regularly go to house clubs won't enjoy it as much, and so it's sort of an acquired taste as your musical tastes become more refined.

I agree. Was not arguing w you if it came off that way. LA def has a crazy nightlife / party scene.

I really like stuff that samples jazz instruments like sax. Btw, imo, no one does this better than the Canadian Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts. If you don't know him, I especially recommend his older EP "Petits Djinns" which uses trumpet, saxophone, and horn. (The guy's strongest track is probably "They Only Come Out at Night," though.)

Back to the mix. Loved hearing "The Sun Can't Compare," one of my all-time faves. Overall, I like the first 45:00 min or so. The tracks after that aren't necessarily bad, but they are too fast for my taste (I almost find it a crime how much you pitch up that JT Donaldson remix).

I really love the track you play at the very end, sort of after the end of the regular mix as a bonus track. I knew the track but didn't know the name. Fortunately, Shazam identified it as "ESP - It's You." Amazing track, want want want want. Hope I can find it online.

I don't ever really have a plan. Probably just a few hot new tracks I really want to play but that's about it. Maybe the first song I wanna play.

The thing is, which relates to the second part of ur Q is that most of the gigs I play hire me based on what they already know of me so my "plan" is basically to just do what I do. When I get some random gig that is more commercial or corporate I may have to prepare some dif music but that's about it. It's really all just a case of adapting to the room. Being able to do that is the trick .

As house has become more and more mainstream again...IE guetta and co...There are people who auto think that is what house is and we they hear something "more refined" as you put it (kinda) there first reaction tends to be "why does this not sound like david guetta" haha...But you just do your best to do what you do and win them over for the evening or hopefully even more. It is an acquired taste (house with funk / jazz / soul etc) influence and not as "catchy" as allot of the more mainstream stuff.

I dig Guillaume's stuff. I never end up playing it tho. He, for some reason, I will get a hot track from and really like it and then forget about it. Need to work on that as it's not that the music is forgettable at all but rather just getting too much music and some getting lost in the virtual pile. The Sun can't compare is a dope cut. The JT all pitched up is because that whole second part was kind of an encore ( mix was live) and I tend to pitch stuff up a bit live. Others give me **** about it 2! . ESP track is a classic.

Influences in terms of DJ's and such. Early on people like Onionz, Joeski, DjDan (pre cheese), the wicked crew (jeno) and some locals. Afterwards def Derrick Carter. He (hearing him and knowing him) changed the way I looked at house music. Even changed the way I felt about it. More recently noone in particular. I like listening to a good dj diz set but I like R hawtin as well. I mostly listen to other forms of music than edm @ home or on the ipod.

All the parties I went to and played @ from the beg to now have also influenced me. The experience I have at them. The conversations that take place. The magic within all that.
