Would would it weaken going through the 90 degree water between Cuba and Bahamas? A Cat 4 is still going to destroy tons of stuff.

I wouldn't expect that to have much of an effect with a storm this large, but that is just my WAG. It certainly won't help, but I doubt it hurts that much.

Today's path updates seem to be pretty much "destroy the entire state of Florida".

New path looks about as bad as it could be. At least most have it weakening to Cat 4/3.

GL all - saw on Twitter that Mercier is staying put. Don't think I would do such a thing with a 37 week preg wife, but each to their own.

The projections are nuts. They have it making landfall in the Everglades and still being a hurricane 24 hours later in Orlando, and 24 hours after that still being a tropical storm in Atlanta.

Shutters going up at my place now. I'm about 20 miles west of Fort Lauderdale. Not excited with these models. At all.

And just an obvious PSA - If you're in the South Florida area and don't have shutters on your home, don't stay there. Go to a shelter or stay at a friend's house, or something.

The 2005 hurricane season had 15 hurricanes, 7 of them major. 4 of them hit the US, Dennis, Katrina, Rita, and Wilma.

Hurricanes are weather, not climate. Whether or not there is climate change, hurricanes neither prove nor disprove it.

With Irma expected to go over Walt Disney World as a Cat 2 hurricane within a day or two, I'm surprised they're not closing up to prepare for what is likely to damage the park.

"Walt Disney World Resort is operating under normal conditions and continues to monitor the path of Hurricane Irma."

But they did cancel "Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party" on Saturday...

They kinda have to. There's thousands of people that have travelled thousands of miles to visit.

I'd be pretty pissed if I travelled all the way from the UK, for the park to be closed before the storm even made landfall.

They'll close on the day or day before the storm hits - to be honest, Disney is probably one of the safest places to be in a Hurricane...

My plan A (move to a concrete condo on the third floor) might have been squashed. Reports are highway patrol is not letting anyone in that area. Might have to ride it out where I am.

Jose is a Category 4 hurricane now though it isn't projected to hit America.

Local predictions are all over the map - anywhere between 50 and 90 mph winds. Storm surge negligible to 6 feet. NFC what to expect.

I heard the surge is predicted to be between 5 to 10 feet but keep in mind there will be huge waves smashing in on top of the surge. Most people who die in hurricanes are killed by the storm surge. Your in an evacuation zone gtfo

Surge is mainly caused by winds blowing surface water in the northeast quad of a hurricane. That doesn't look to be a problem for biggerboat.
