There are 3.5 million people in Puerto Rico and the island is not prepared or capable of handling what's about to hit it. If you have a Puerto Rican community in your city you should probably expect it to get larger this year.

Tim Duncan matched $1mm on donations to US Virgin Island relief after Irma. The photos I've seen of St. John are terrible - many of the locals there are very poor. They're gonna get nailed here again. YouCaring looks like they don't take a rake, like the other funding sites do, all your money minus credit card processing can go to the Big Fundamental's org.

Obv not perfect to have two hurricanes hit, but probs better to have two in quick succession than one three months after the first...

Probably not. After 3 months much of the debris will be cleaned up, property resecured, windows boarded up, and people will have found some safe space. As it stands the islands are littered with loose boards, roofing and other debris sure to take flight. All of the vegetation being gone will make matters worse as well.

Currently many people are essentially camping.

Very much this. There's a lot more destruction possible with so many potential projectiles lying around.

Yeah, thought I had read somewhere that most people had evacuated the islands - didn't think about all that **** becoming projectiles...

Almost all of the different models of Maria have been trending more and more westward with each latest run. US landfall potential is increasing. Jose was expected to break down the northern ridge in the Atlantic but Jose is smaller than the models forecasted, therefore not making as much of an impact in the ridge. East coast needs to pay a lot of attention to this one.

Moved a little. Should be aware, but no need to take action yet.

All of Puerto Rico without power. Some estimating it will take upwards of 6 months to a year to restore islands that already have an incredibly shotty power grid.
