Yeah, we had a tree fall years ago from saturated ground - the ground was a bit sunken at the base of the tree, so the water really pooled and eventually the tree tipped over. Fortunately, it was just an apple tree, so it wasn't tall. That there were apples on it played a role, too, as it was heavy on one side.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

It is not the fault of the store that a predatory demographic has to always act the fool in such situations.
Yay racism

Looks like the Keys really bore the brunt, 10K people being evacuated, islands are essentially cut off. Issues with water, bridge and road damage. Wonder how long until the Keys can reopen to tourists.

I have a vacation scheduled for November in St. Thomas. Doesn't look promising.

I'm going on an Eastern Caribbean cruise at end of Oct. Or was. The cruiseline already changed it to Western Caribbean instead.

This was just so much click bait. "Largest predicted storm surge". Never mind it didn't actually get that high. Reality is bad enough without media spinning it as the biggest/worst ever.

Finally heard from my family near Tampa. They've got no power, some trees down and lost a few shingles but me it through safely otherwise. Definitely glad to hear that.

Models on Jose starting to look like it has a real chance of making US landfall... Most models had it looping and collapsing on it self... Not anymore.. The euro and GFS has it looping and then beeline towards the NE corridor. One model to watch is the UKMET. It correctly predicted south FL landfall for IRMA 10 days out while everything else still had it going towards the Carolinas.. Doesnt mean much and the storm is a ways out but unfortunately it's one the US will have to keep an eye on.

Where in St Thomas? You'll likely be fine.

Resort is on the northeast side of the island. Pictures I've seen (general St Thomas, not resort specific) don't look good. We'll see.

I drove to New Orleans to avoid Irma. My house is near Ft Lauderdale.
Wondering if I should head home Wednesday or if traffic (people coming back, roads being blocked) is likely to be brutal and I should spend another couple days here.
What do you guys think?

Edit: Forgot to mention that I had friends check and power is on, place is in tact.

I think your biggest issue would be finding enough gas to get back there due to the massive power outage area.

Is this MLYLT or Springs1 gimmick account? I'm leaning toward Springs.

News outlets don't make the tracks...

As Irma showed, they don't mean a huge amount this far out. Sure, one might pin the tail on the donkey by pure luck, and if they all go in a similar direction you can get some idea, but truth be told, no-one really knows.

Still no power here. People don't understand what to do when traffic lights are out.

I'm pretty much cut off from everything. I get crappy phone service where I live on a good day. My last attempt at getting info on power said 416,000 people in Pinellas county still don't have power. More than all surrounding counties put together. No clue on an estimate of when it comes back.

If you have the right of way you come to a dead stop and stare blankly at everybody else, otherwise you motor on through, oblivious to everything.

Not unique to this storm and hardly a surprise, considering how many don't even know what to do at a four-way stop with clear skies and sunshine.

Traffic in all parts of Houston sucked worse than usual after Harvey. Lots of issues caused by recurring accidents in parts of town that didn't usually have that problem.
