Drove over to Brandon thinking restaurants would be open since everything on Kennedy/Downtown is boarded up/closed. Nope.
They won't force you to leave.

No, Tampa will not be leveled. New Orleans is mostly below sea level. Makes a bit of a difference.

Did you read the article linked up thread? Said Tampa is in top 3 or 4 most vulnerable cities. Models have a direct hit from Cat 5 doing incredible damage.

Tampa is not ready for this. Not even close. It doesn't make a difference when the city isn't capable of even handling small floods.

This will be very bad. But Tampa will not be "leveled". Right now it is not predicted to be Cat5 (and yes, it does make a difference, why else make the distinction?). Should people be concerned? Yes, very. But I just don't think over the top hyperbole is useful.

If you have a Tapatalk account (vs just logging in to 2p2 on Tapatalk using your 2p2 account), it's easy to post pics (and even videos?) as Tapatalk hosts them for you.

This article is why I referenced Katrina. Note that's it's from July 28, so not fear mongering to get people to evacuate.

Please don't, unless you're driving to safety with gf and dad.

Good luck.

I read that article when it was published. It assumes a worst case scenario of a 15ft storm surge. That is not happening.

Also, encouraging people to evacuate is not the same as saying Tampa will be "leveled".

Either you or the Mayor will be correct. Hope it's you.

A high-level cat 4 and a low level cat 5 have a difference of 5mph wind speed.. That's where this is predicted that 5 mph is not going to make any difference with 150mph+ winds. The distinction matters, but in this case when it's borderline between the two, it really doesn't.

I just tried to find it but cant. But I thought I read somewhere that storm surges were predicted between 10 and 20 feet.

Tampa is currently predicted to be 5-8 feet. Nothing to laugh at, but not anywhere near "worse case".

ETA: Storm surge is always greater in the northeast quad of a hurricane. That's not happening in Tampa this time unless it swings way out to the gulf.

Parts of souther Florida they are saying 10-12. I believe the latest Tampa maps said 4-8ft.

This is going to devastate the Florida keys. There are still people running around taking pictures on the southern tip web cam. Can't believe some people there aren't listening to these warnings. Would assume tourists are the ones taking pictures which makes it even worse

I didn't think about this , but they were talking about getting gas back here quickly and power back up. They have a lot if resources available but they can't move them in now and they can't bring them in behind the storm. They have to wait until it completely moves north of the state.
