Watching the idiot surfers out on the water during live hits from an evacuation zone always cracks me up.

So it has ample warm water left in front of it to bump up from a 3 potentially back to a 5?

Are you prepared if the windows blow out and everything gets sucked out of your place? Do you have all of your valuables packed into a small duffel bag? Passports, ID's, titles, important papers in zip loc bags within that duffel bag? Medications and scripts in the bag?

Interior closet or bathroom cleared out and prepared as a shelter?
Check, check, and check. We have a week's worth of food and water. Portable phone chargers. Not gonna lie, it's scary, though.

Filling the bathtub will give you extra water to be able to flush the toilets and freezing gallon zip loc bags of water serves a dual purpose.

Every projection has it going to at least 4 up the coast and some have it reaching 5.

Do you know the year of construction of the building by chance?

How tall is the building?

Looks like Jose is going to miss everything but St. Martin and St. Barts.

Here's a live stream of ABC Action News in the Tampa Bay Area.

I was born and raised in St. Pete, so have plenty of family and friends there. My dad is riding it out in the house I grew up in and my in-laws just boarded up their windows and are hoping none of the big trees in their yard come down on the roof that hasn't been replaced in 30 years.

My in-laws are in evac zone E, dad's in B (but he's not going anywhere, ugh).

I can't think of any storm that has been this hyped in Pinellas County since Elena, which didn't even make direct landfall. But that ***** sat northwest of us for days just pushing water into us.

glgl, bigger. Keep us posted.

Please don't think that just because this is a cat 3 that it's not going to be as bad. There is 90+ degree water waiting for IRMA once it turns north. Everyone expects it to regain its strength

Just talked to dad and they're going to evacuate to his wife's sister's place. His house is at 7' above sea level, with Lake Seminole to the west and Boca Ciega Bay to the south, so...yeah.

I don't think it's expected to go back to Cat5.

A Cat4 could be enough to level Tampa. Katrina was only a Cat3 when it hit Louisiana.

Checked into my hotel next to the airport, 5th floor room. Concrete/steel building with a generator surrounded by big buildings.Should be safe as long as they dont call zone B. Sherrifs may have to drag me outta the hotel in cuffs if that happens.

Drove over to Brandon thinking restaurants would be open since everything on Kennedy/Downtown is boarded up/closed. Nope.

Most models, the euro especially which is historically the most accurate, have it borderline cat4/5 by landfall. It's starting its turn north and the eye wall is in perfect shape. Ripe to gain strength

The only difference at this point is what the hurricane will be listed as in the record books.

My family is a half hour north from Tampa. Not to close to the coast but somewhat close. They won't leave. No one can convince them to go anywhere. Very frustrating
