A brief history of the Northern Ireland Troubles.
Her Majesty's Prison Maze (aka the Long Kesh or the H Blocks) was the prison in Belfast that was used to house political prisoners during the Northern Ireland Troubles. (Both Nationalist and Seperatist prisoners were housed here) I learned from my mother that we had many family and friends in this prison in the 70's and 80's. Including two of her brothers and a family friend from the Markets neighbourhood that my father grew up in, who served a full life sentence.

It was the sight of the 1991 hunger strike in which 10 political prisoners killed themselves, including the infamous Bobby Sands.

Another interesting development during the Belfast troubles were the "Shankill Buthchers", they were a group of mostly protestant members of the Ulster Volunteer Force who brutally murdered many Catholics and Protestants during the troubles.
