http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derinkuyu_Underground_City

*Note: This is all underground.
"The complex has a total 11 floors, though many floors have not been excavated. Each floor could be closed off separately.

The city could accommodate between 35,000 and 50,000 people and had all the usual amenities found in other underground complexes across Cappadocia, such as wine and oil presses, stables, cellars, storage rooms, refectories, and chapels."

How a population manages to maintain itself underground with the risk of collapse, disease, sanitation issues etc. is way beyond me. Seems a bit surreal.

Nah. I think it's perfectly reasonable to ban Ruby Tuesday seeing how 9/11 was a Tuesday. Who listen to Stones anyway?

Here Clear Channel's thought process clearly was: "**** it! While we're at it, let's ban "Sunday Bloody Sunday" aswell."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachikō - This is why dogs > cats. An Akita that kept waiting for his owner, even after he died.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beak_doctor_costume - The costume worn by plague doctors in the middle ages. Not a particularly interesting article, but it's creepy as hell.

All this while O'Rourke was becoming perhaps the world's greatest authority on the thought processes and the personality of the octopus. He knew how to outmaneuver them, to outflank them, and to outthink them. He knew full well, many years ago, what today's octopus wrestlers are just beginning to learn—that it is impossible for a man with two arms to apply a full nelson on an octopus; he knew full well the futility of trying for a crotch hold on an opponent with eight crotches
excellent.

Considering all of the ridiculous songs included on that list, how the hell did they leave off "Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out On Broadway)" by Billy Joel? The entire song is about NYC being destroyed!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindow_man

Preserved body of man discovered in peat bog near Manchester, England, dated some time between 2 BC and 119 AD.

Quote:
There has been debate over the reason for Lindow Man's death, for the nature of his demise was violent, perhaps ritualistic; after a last meal of charred bread, Lindow Man was strangled, hit on the head, and his throat cut.

Voytek the soldier bear

Quote:
British High Command did not allow any pets or animals in their camp, so the Polish Army formally enlisted Voytek the Bear into their ranks. He was given the rank of Private, assigned a serial number, and from that point on was included in all official unit rosters.
Complete bad ass. Now that's what the U.S army needs.

It is not endemic to one single religion or denomination but has affected Jews, Christians and Muslims of many different backgrounds.

I like this guy's style. After winning the marathon at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in a new world record time, instead of collapsing like others he started doing stretching exercises to the astonishment of the crowd.

And he won the marathon in 1960 barefoot.
