I admit didn’t make it through that much of the Enron one as the duke one disgusted me. The first 15 minutes of the Enron one is the girl playing the role of the dumb blonde that needs everything explained to her and the guy saying things like I watched few YouTube videos about X and I don’t totally understand the concept but I think y is what this means.

By the way, I wouldn’t call myself a smart businessman. Just a simple high school janitor that doesn’t think the best way to learn about a topic is by listening to 2 people who either don’t understand the topic themselves or admit early on in a podcast they want to find some college boys guilty of a heinous crime because they are rich and white.

Re: Interesting Wikipedia articles for killing time and expanding your mind!!

I think his point is that, if you truly entertain the idea that the Duke guys were guilty, you aren't very good at doing research. It's frankly appalling that anyone would suggest they were.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_lacrosse_case

The first paragraph should let you know how screwed up the entire case was. By the way, the accuser was later sent to prison for murder, 3 years after she was arrested for attempted murder.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Mangum

If I took a college-level textbooks on Enron, I still wouldn't feel prepared to discuss that case with any sort of authority. It's far too complex to put into soundbites and definitely not a case you can start by saying "well, I don't much, but here are the facts, ma'am."

I listened to it over a week ago. Go listen to it and if you don’t come away thinking those 2 have no idea what they are talking about I will listen to the first 10 minutes again and give you a couple examples.

On second thought if after listening to them you don’t know they don’t know **** I don’t think anyone can teach you why they are so bad. Also, I got contained for posting off topic and am evidently skating on thin ice with 27. I can’t risk posting more about this topic since he basically told me he is going to do everything he can to boot me.

You can risk looking like an idiot by saying I don’t know **** because I said those 2 are terrible but anyone listens to that podcast they will know you didn’t listen to and we’re just looking for a fight or you are dumb.

goofy,

there's a weird thing on your shoulder. Looks like a chip from here. Those two podcasters your personal friends?

Anyway, I just tried listening to the Enron episode, but made it no further than three minutes. I'd rather listen to fingernails on chalkboard than to valley-girl-vocal-fry dialed up to eleven.

Goof, for the reason I stated in my last post I am no longer able to respond to your post. However, I’d love to read your response to sugarnuts post. Seems extremely odd to defend those 2 podcasters if you heard either the Enron or duke lacrosse podcasts.

My response to him is...if he doesn't like the girl's voice, ok? I'm laughing at you because you don't like their politics. Instead of just admitting that, you're lashing out and saying they don't know what they're talking about, despite the fact that both of them are much smarter than you are (not a high bar!).

goofy, I like you, but your shtick of following annoying posters around and trying to needle them everywhere is at least as annoying as the annoying posters themselves. Especially when you get this try-hard.

There is a huge difference between saying you don't like to listen to a business discussion from people who admittedly know little about business and saying that they were getting things wrong. I don't want to listen to someone who knows little about literature explain Milton, even if the things they say about him are not factually incorrect.

I'm no micky fan, but I only got as far as "oh god, I really hardly know anything, were they friends with Halliburton?" before I was done.

Her voice is fine. It's the way she uses it that is a pretty big no-no in my book if you want to be taken seriously about anything.

That said, I'm pretty sure he was asking for a response to the first part of my post. The one about the chip on your shoulder. But I guess Garick gave a good enough explanation about why you're tarding up the thread, so no further response from you is needed.

By far the best bit of the Rosenhan experiment is the follow-up where that one hospital asked him to send fake patients. It's in the Wiki.

Not quite sure how I ended up here but a pretty fascinating read if you look further into the individual cases

TL;DR chess gets banned from a station because it caused people to murder each other, someone murders someone else because they kept spoiling books the other was trying to read.

Bone Music, or Ribs, or...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribs_(recordings)

In the USSR, it was illegal to sell or own western music. The people wanted to hear Elvis, the Beetles, the Rolling Stones, and more.

The material to make bootleg records was too expensive and difficult to find, so some enterprising person figured out that he could make records on X-Rays.

Here's an image of one:

The wiki article isn't all too good, but there are a few interesting articles on the web. I think it's a fascinating display of ingenuity.

Re: Interesting Wikipedia articles for killing time and expanding your mind!!

Fell down this ****ing hole last night at work:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_...ck_metal_scene
Quote:
The early 1990s Norwegian black metal scene is credited with creating the modern black metal genre and produced some of the most acclaimed and influential artists in extreme metal. It attracted massive media attention when it was revealed that its members had been responsible for two murders, one suicide, and a wave of church burnings in Norway.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Per_%22Dead%22_Ohlin
Quote:
During one tour with Mayhem, he found a dead crow and kept it in a plastic bag. He often carried it about with him and would smell the bird before going onstage, to sing "with the stench of death in his nostrils".[13] He also kept dead geese under his bed.[3][8]

Dead would cut himself while singing onstage. During a gig in 1990, he slashed his arm with a broken bottle. Faust claims that Dead had to be taken to hospital after the gig, but arrived too late and so "it was no use to give him stitches".[15]

In an interview done by Marduk guitarist Morgan 'Evil' Håkansson and published in Slayer fanzine, Dead explained how he and the band tried to weed out poseurs at their concerts:

Before we began to play there was a crowd of about 300 in there, but in the second song 'Necro Lust' we began to throw around those pig heads. Only 50 were left, I liked that! [...] We wanna scare those [who] shouldn't be at our concerts and they will have to escape through the emergency exit with parts of their body missing, so we can have something to throw around. [...] If someone doesn't like blood and rotten flesh thrown in their face they can **** OFF, and that's exactly what they do.[16]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euronymous
Quote:
On 8 April 1991, Dead was found dead by Euronymous at his home with slit wrists and a shotgun wound to the head. Dead's death was considered suicide. Before calling the police, he went to a shop and bought a disposable camera with which he photographed the body, after rearranging some items.[7][8][9] One of these photographs was later used as the cover of a bootleg live album: Dawn of the Black Hearts.[10] Necrobutcher recalls how Euronymous told him of the suicide:

Øystein called me up the next day ... and says, "Dead has done something really cool! He killed himself". I thought, have you lost it? What do you mean cool? He says, "Relax, I have photos of everything". I was in shock and grief. He was just thinking how to exploit it. So I told him, "OK. Don't even ****ing call me before you destroy those pictures".[11] Euronymous used Dead's suicide to foster Mayhem's "evil" image and claimed Dead had killed himself because death metal had become "trendy" and commercialized.[12] In time, rumors spread that Euronymous had made a stew with bits of Dead's brain and had made necklaces with bits of his skull.[13] The band later denied the former rumor but confirmed that the latter was true.[10][13]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varg_Vikernes
Quote:
In early 1993, animosity arose between Euronymous and Vikernes, and between Euronymous and the Norwegian black metal scene.[42] After the Bergens Tidende episode, Euronymous decided to shut Helvete as it began to draw the attention of the police and media.[43] On the night of 10 August 1993, Vikernes and Snorre "Blackthorn" Ruch drove from Bergen to Euronymous' apartment at Tøyengata (English: Tøyen Street) in Oslo.[44] Upon their arrival a confrontation began and Vikernes fatally stabbed Euronymous. His body was found on the stairs outside the apartment with 23 cut wounds – two to the head, five to the neck, and sixteen to the back.[45]

Wowsers. I want to read all that now, but I think I'll have to wait. There are quite a few other wild stories around the Norwegian music scene.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorgoroth

Quote:
On February 1, 2004, during a concert being recorded for a DVD in Kraków, Poland, the band displayed sheep heads on stakes, a bloodbath of 80 litres of sheep's blood, Satanic symbols, and four naked crucified models on stage. A police investigation took place with allegations of religious offence (which is prosecutable under Polish law) and cruelty to animals.
