The guy whose name is the root for the word sadism. That's all I have to say about that

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquis_de_Sade

His book 120 days of sodomy was so controversial it wasn't published until almost 150 years after it was written and is one of the most banned books in the world.
On the first topic, there is a very good documentary called "The Town That Was" uploaded by now -

A teenager was driving drunk and killed 4 people while injuring 2. He got probation literally because he was rich. He used the "affluenza" defense. He could not understand a link between his actions and consequences because of his family's wealth.

There have been some clearly man-made holes/tunnels, and several items found, but it certainly has been exaggerated, imo.

It's a money-maker though. The reality show is in its third season:

Sure I am just saying their are coconut fibers all over, which don't grow there. Nothing I've read has a good natural explanation for that.

Other odd place:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_..._West_Virginia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United...dio_Quiet_Zone

Green Bank, WV is in the United States Quiet Zone, where all things electromagnetic are banned (cell phones, microwaves, etc).

The most severe restrictions imposed on the general public are only in place within the 20 mile radius of The Green Bank telescope.[3][4] The NRAO actively police the area for devices emitting noticeably high amounts of electromagnetic radiation such as microwave ovens, WiFi routers and faulty electrical equipment and request citizens discontinue their usage. They possess no legal powers of enforcement[5] (although the FCC can still impose a fine of $50 on violators[6]), but will work with residents to find solutions.[7][8] Gasoline (petrol) cars are forbidden within 1 mile of the telescope as spark plugs within the engine generate noticeable radio interference, resulting in all vehicles needing to be diesel powered.[9]

There's a ton of crazy articles about this place online. Not wikipedia, but interesting stuff:

Sick!

Rather loosely linked, another very wealthy family lost an 18-year-old daughter recently, known from a reality TV series.

- her short wiki - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Siegel -

However, it brought me to watch an award-winning documentary last night. And it is excellent imo.

I read an article that said skinny people and fat people have different poo bacteria, and a poo transplant from a skinny person might help a fat person lose weight. I'm ready to be a guinea pig.

This guy is about to be the subject of an Inarittu movie starring Leo di Caprio: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Glass

"laojiao" (re-education through labor) and "laogai" (reform through labor) in China.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Re-edu..._through_labor

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laogai

was reading wiki pages on various economic and freedom metrics and saw that China is still ranked among the worst countries in the world with regards to freedom and democracy. found my way to these pages.

tl;dr - you can piss off an authority figure in China and be thrown into a labor camp for up to 4 years (or longer, no one really knows) without trial where you'll work 12+ hour days and be tortured, starved, and probably pick up a disease or two.

Interesting. I'm going to have to quit saying the US has more people incarcerated than any other country. At the top end of those numbers China may even have more people incarcerated per capita than the US.

China's had way more incarcerated for years. They just don't advertise it.

That's why I dislike when people misconstrue facts and say things like "USA has more homicides per capita than any country in the world" and show stats to prove it. Yes, it is very likely they have the most "reported" homicides per capita in the world. I am sure Somalia and Syria are really good at gathering and crunching and reporting those numbers for our consumption.

Idiots

USA is not even close to the highest homicide rate in the world. The rate in Honduras is almost 20 times as high. US is very middle of the road in terms of homicide rate.

We are extreme in incarceration rate though. Maybe China's rate is higher.
