You can hang out with her friend and drink in a lot of different settings. One of you two want to be there, and it sounds like that person is your wife. Don't act awkward for the sake of saving face. Be attentive to whether she's into it or not, and if she's into it let her experiment imo.

A lot depends whether this is one of the swinger parties that screen (via pictures) their guests. If it's just a craigslist FFA it might be a lot of fatties and uggos.

Expect people to be less awkward about how openly sexual they are. There are going to be a lot of guys there hanging out naked trying to get laid, instead of the idea of "sexual exploration." It's pretty much a place where people get bored, and they go to find sexual excitement or some way of having other relationships without breaking their current one (human condition as far as i know).

Most are pretty chill (i mean the situation dictates it) so they won't mind if you are just hanging out. You are not the first couple who decided to see how things were. It'll be an enlightening experience and regardless of spectating or participating, remember it's supposed to be something you enjoy with your wife(ideally).

If you are going to a private party then I have no idea but if you are going to a club then basically expect the common area to be just like a normal club but more racy. Sort of like a strip club feel. Once you go into the on-site area you normally have to be naked or down to underwear. People will be having sex. No one will pressure you into anything. Just always be respectful and everything will be fine. Normally there are large area but there are also private smaller rooms. Just play it by ear. If you just want to walk around and look that is fine no one will care.
