Those living root bridges look like something out of a fantasy novel.

Bobbie the wonder dog: awwwwww. Can't believe no one adopted him on his way home though.

Judgeholdem: nope never going there. Cool video though.

The skyway is kind of a mind **** for how tall it is. Trippy as hell to be on one of the cruise ships posted and narrowly clear the bottom of the bridge. It's also disconcerting to be driving over the bridge and see the remnants of the collapsed earlier bridge that they turned into fishing piers on either side.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem_syndrome

Jerusalem syndrome is a group of mental phenomena involving the presence of either religiously themed obsessive ideas, delusions or other psychosis-like experiences that are triggered by a visit to the city of Jerusalem. It is not endemic to one single religion or denomination but has affected Jews, Christians, and Muslims of many different backgrounds.

Learned in social psych class that heightened anxiety / fear makes people gauge others as being more attractive, with high bridge crossings being what they used in their experiment.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misa...ion_of_arousal

"An example of the possible effects of misattribution of arousal is perceiving a potential partner as more attractive because of a heightened state of physiological stress. A study done by White et al. (1981)[2]investigated this phenomenon and found that those in an unrelated aroused state will rate an attractive confederate more highly than a rater without arousal. The researchers also found that aroused raters would dislike an unattractive confederate more than those without arousal."

Does it still work if you lie prostrate on the floor and refuse to go within 10feet of the edge?

The Jason mask would take care of the ugly part.

Knowing my luck, she'd be a serial killer. Seems the odds favor you ran into a psychopath if said date is willing to call that bridge crossing a romantic idea.

The Houdini of Florida

He made his first escape after a month at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, where he put LSD-25 from the hospital’s pharmacy into the staff’s coffee.*His plan was to slip out while the staff was under the drug's influence. Unfortunately, security was called as some of the staff were having various freak-outs from the LSD.

There is a documentary on him you can find on YouTube that I found via the wiki you posted. I watched the first 10 minutes and will likely watch the rest when I have time.

This link came across my twitter feed:

The last man killed in WW1. Surprised he was awarded with as many commendations as he was, given that he attacked basically because he was stupid and disobeyed direct orders in doing so.

ubsequent investigations revealed that on the last day of World War I, between the beginning of the armistice negotiations in the railroad cars encampment at the Compiegne Forest, French commander-in-chief Marshal Foch refused to accede to the German negotiators' immediate request to declare a ceasefire or truce so that there would be no more useless waste of lives among the common soldiers. By not declaring a truce even between the signing of the documents for the Armistice and its entry into force, "at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month", about 11,000 additional men were wounded or killed – far more than usual, according to the military statistics.[

Battle of the Sexes (Tennis);

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle..._Sexes_(tennis)

A series of tennis matches between professional male and female tennis players. Basically, it was 50+ yo men -vs- 30yo women. I like his description from Bobby Riggs -vs- Billie Jean King:

King entered the court in the style of Cleopatra, on a feather-adorned litter carried by four bare-chested muscle men dressed in the style of ancient slaves Riggs followed in a rickshaw drawn by a bevy of scantily clad models. Riggs presented King with a giant Sugar Daddy lollipop, and she responded by giving him a squealing piglet, symbolic of male chauvinism.

There's also a part about the Williams sisters competing against Karsten Braasch after the sisters claimed they could beat any of the top 200 men. After this defeat (Braasch was ranked 203), they amended their number to 350. Braasch claimed they couldn't take on a top 600.

I'm old enough to have watched the Bobby Riggs, Billie Jean King match. I was pissed with Riggs lost and thought he didn't even try. I wasn't old enough to realize he was WAY past his prime and he was just an old man trying to play tennis.
