The correct option is to have ATMs that let you choose exactly how many notes of each value you want, like proper first world countries have. The whole situation wouldn't happen at all.

don't waste your time counting $100 in the first place.

if you get shorted you get shorted, if you get extra you get extra. can't be worth your time to catch the 2% of the time that there's a $3 error.

Very important information not given: were any of these notes of the type you've been showing over in your travel thread? Definitely keep if they have cool animal pictures.

I probably rage internally a little bit, maybe give her a STFU. On the way out, if I happen to bump into a manager type, I might stop for a minute and mention, but certainly not going to wait and hunt someone down.

why did you need to break the large bills, giving many tips?

I am not sure what country you are in, but my country the tellers are usually low paid and if at the end of their shift they are off, they need to go through all of their transactions for the day to determine their error...

Yeah chop probably spent an interminable amount of time slowly counting the money. It’s not like the teller is getting paid extra for doing more transactions. You were probably blocking the line and she was making eye contact with whoever was waiting behind you and wanted to move it along.

If she really did yell to move as you tried to explain she gave you an extra $3, either just slide her $3 and say you gave me too much or just leave. It’s a small enough figure where it won’t matter if the tellers draw is short and is irrelevant to you so who cares.

Edit - in non us country it could matter. Return the excess and leave, don’t use the bank again unless you have to.

The extra note was one of these:

No animals on it, but there is a bunch of bananas which may attract animals, such as:

that note won the International Bank Note Society's "Banknote of 2010" award.

The other notes had a tilapia, weaver bird, and long horned bull.

Both tips and general purchases. It is very difficult to get change here when using larger notes (gl using the gorilla for anything) and often involves waiting 5-10 minutes while the seller goes elsewhere to try and find smaller notes.

Put it in a charity box.

I had a situation where a waiter didn't hand me my change when I paid for a meal at an airport restaurant. I had planned to leave the change as a tip but when he didn't hand it back I specifically asked for it then made sure that he saw me sticking it in the charity box next to the entrance.

Pretty petty (I was in a bad mood).

Offer the person behind you in line $3 to make their transaction take as long as possible.
Or, if you have time to kill get back in line and exchange the bills for $3 in pennies, then "accidentally" drop them so they make as big a mess as possible.

That reminds me of a story of mine.

I went to court to fight a drunk in public charge when I was in high school and tried to negotiate with the prosecutor as my 16 year old self thought was a thing. Well she says that she recognizes me from something else (true) and I'm a habitual troublemaker (meh, false) and she won't negotiage and it's a $360 fine. I wait and when I'm called the judge instituted the fine.

So I go to the bank to take out the money, the teller asks how I want the bills and a lightbulb goes off.

I **** you not i went back to the courthouse and got in line to file with the clerk and who is behind me but this prosecutor. I look back and she has a huge smirk on her face. When I'm finally up in line she's watching my transaction intimately and as I'm wrung up. "That's $360 dollars sir, how are you paying?" "Cash" and I lay 360 ones across the counter. The clerk laughs and the prosecutor gives a disgusted look. The clerk counts out to 359, I assure her there is the full amount and she starts over to count again, and counts 360 the second time.
