What festivals are you applying to?
My personal experiences at festivals range from absolutely amazing to downright depressing.

I don't know, gotta look at the lists online and see what fits my schedule. I applied to a bunch a couple months ago and got some back:
-I was accepted as an alternate to the Laughing Devil festival in NYC that was in May, but enough comics didn't drop out so I didn't get a spot, plus I was on my honeymoon anyway so it wouldn't have mattered.
-I was accepted to the Maine Comedy Festival but had to turn it down because they wanted me to be there for 5 days.
-I got accepted as an alternate to the Milwaukee comedy festival but I'm probably going to turn that one down too because I'm reconsidering if I want to go all the way to Milwaukee. Brian Posehn is the headliner though, which is cool.
-I was rejected for the Asheville Comedy Festival.
-I am waiting to hear back from Derby City Festival (Louisville), Brooklyn Comedy Festival, and Cleveland Comedy Festival. Should hear from all three in the next month.
Do you have any experience with any of those?

Re: I'm in the finals of a national TV comedy search! Now I need your vote, OOT!
I did the Cleveland Comedy Festival last year. It suffers from a very common festival problem of putting all the big names on one show, and then all the submission level comics are playing to a small crowd across the street. There were some very good submission level comics, but also a few that were absolutely awful, so overall I like your chances of getting in. The Playhouse square district is lovely, but Cleveland weather in November is pretty unpleasant. The whole experience would have been dramatically better had it been held a couple months earlier.
I know some people that did the Derby City Festival last year. General consensus was that it was a little disorganized, but I would presume that had a lot to do with it being their first year. The people that own that club also own several others in the Midwest and generally do a good job so I would expect their festival to improve year over year. Let me know if you do Louisville, it is only 2 hours from me and I could potentially help find you some more stage time.
I submitted to Ashville, but didn't get in. From what I've heard it is very good, big venues with big crowds.

Thanks, that's really helpful. I really hope I get Louisville because I like the city and my wife's family lives there so we could turn it into a family visit as well.
By the way, you should consider submitting a tape to get on next season of "Laughs" on FOX. Here is the info that was posted yesterday:
Quote:
Hi comedians! Submission time for Laughs Season 2!
We are now booking 42 spots for comedians who will likely be used anywhere from one to five times during the season. All of these spots will be filmed at the Comedy Club at Pechanga in Temecula, CA, with seven taping dates between July and December. There are other tapings occurring across the country, but they have already been booked.
If you'd like to submit for consideration for one of the Temecula shows, here's how. (Please note: this is the only way to submit!)
1) Email hillarylaughstv@gmail.com
2) Include a direct link to a VIDEO clip preferably between 5-7 minutes, preferably hosted on YouTube. File attachments and downloads will not be considered.
We receive and watch 100% of submissions, so there's no need to follow up. Please be patient!
Some tips:
1) The AV quality doesn't have to be TV ready. But we need to know you can be TV clean, so send us a clip of you being clean (or at least relatively clean)
2) No musical acts. That's not the format of the show.
3) Make sure the clip is ad free.
4) No private links with passwords.
5) Make sure the jokes have TV potential (i.e. avoid crowd work and local jokes)
The sooner you submit, the more tapings you'll be eligible for! We look forward to seeing your clips soon.

I have a lot of friends who were on the first season of Laughs. AFAIK, all of them were invited after doing a set at either Morty's (Indianapolis) or The Laughing Derby (Louisville).
Those clubs, as well as Wileys (Dayton), are all owned by the same group of people, one of whom, Steve Hofstetter, is the host and executive producer of Laughs.

Thanks! Same girl. Looks a little older now.
Okay, it's official now, I am in the final 4. Couldn't have done it without the big push from all of you guys. And special thanks to the mods and admins here for letting me post this here. Results will be in the judges hands, and we'll find out on July 23rd. Yes we can! Yes we can!

Congrats on Derby City. I somehow slept on submitting to that, which is pretty inexcusable on my part considering that it is very close to me, but there is always next year I guess.

My show dates are 2 on Thursday, and 1 on Sunday. Do you think you can hook me up with anything that Friday or Saturday? Well anyway, it's still 3 months in the future, so I'll pester you about it as it gets closer.
2 of the spots are in the main room and 1 is in the "Box." Is that a much smaller space?

Re: I'm in the finals of a national TV comedy search! Now I need your vote, OOT!
I'm not entirely sure what the "Box" is. I know that the Derby sometimes has smaller shows in their bar area near the entrance, so I suspect it might be that.
Friday and Saturday are tough, but I can PM some names of Louisville people that seem to be pretty plugged in down there.

Try and be as funny as you can without putting any effort. If you're hilarious while doing that, maybe only half the audience will hate your act. GL!

Re: I'm in the finals of a national TV comedy search! Now I need your vote, OOT!
Results were announced last night, and I lost to Mr. Tickle.
Obviously I'm disappointed, but I'm not taking it too hard. I never expected to get this far so it's still pretty cool.
Thanks again for you guys sending me votes that got me into the top 4. The producer actually said to me a few weeks ago "how did you get so many votes?"

Sorry to hear. Was hoping for a 2+2 contingent at the festival.
Let us know if you get any gigs in Vegas.
