I wouldn't say it's a negative. I've gotten in contact with a lot of people friends/family that I haven't seen in decades. On an everyday basis it's just more of a time killer. And it helps keep in contact with people you don't wanna talk to on the phone especially if they're the type of person that will keep you on the phone for hrs.

Um, okay? "No one" is a stretch. Plenty of far-flung extended family and girlfriends appear to be interested in my belly. I realize I am annoying to cranky 20-something dudes, but I'm okay with that. Also, if you were actually trying not to be a dick you certainly weren't trying very hard.

By no one he means us guys.

On the other side I am sure your girlfriends think that stuff like that is what FB was invented for.

This is incorrect.

I hate mundane facebook crap as much as the next person but you are pretty out of touch if you really think this. Being pregnant is a big ****ing deal and I know I have a vested interest in my female friends/family members (my wife hasn't been pregnant yet) babies. I don't spend all day looking at the pics or anything, but in no way are they out of line for posting them.

OTOH this gem was waiting for me in my news feed today, shocking, by a trashy girl who knows little to nothing about baseball:

Quote:
In honor of Opening Day, put this as your status if you know someone who suffers from being a White Sox Fan. Being a White Sox Fan is a real disorder and should be taken seriously. There is still no known cure for WSF and sympathy does not help but we can raise awareness. 100% of Cubs fans will re-post this, simply b/c we know how to copy and paste, as well as tie our shoes
Icing on the cake was the trashiest girl I know (whom I am not friends with on facebook because I find her life view so odious) comments "I luv this!"

I've had 20-30 friends and family members go through pregnancy since FB came on the scene. I can't remember one of them posting belly pics. Plenty of ultrasound and newborn pics, but no bellies.

Maybe girls want to see that stuff. But I think I speak for a lot of guys when I say I have absolutely zero interest in seeing that, even for a very close friend, and it makes me a tiny bit squeamish.

I wasn't trying to be a dick. And yeah but I meant guys.

The thing about the preggo **** (and i agree with Nuisance) is a majority of them could fit in the "humble brags" thread. a friend once told me she couldn't wait to "get back" at other women for making her jealous when she was single, but now that she's having a baby, it means she's more secure in this world blah blah. i won't pretend she speaks on behalf of all women but it made me sick.

The fact that the significant majority of men on Pongo's friend list have blocked her from their feed surprises literally no one. Convincing an expectant mother about how little those around her care about her child is impossible.

lol @ "the fact." I am aware that not everyone thinks this is omg the greatest most interesting thing that has ever happened tell me more!! but suggesting that "no one" cares (and then pointing out that you actually were excluding roughly 50% of the population) is completely nuts. I'm happy if people who find my status updates irritating or whatever block me, because then I am not irritating them. Everybody wins.

It shouldn't really be surprising that pregnant women post a lot about pregnancy. For one, it's pretty much the biggest thing going on in my life right now, and two, it's the only thing any one wants to talk to me about.

The only person I can think of who might be fascinated to hear about how pregnancy is going, and see what a growing baby does to a human mid-section - is a woman who hasn't had a kid yet but is thinking about doing so in the near future. My bet is that everyone else is just showing support/requisite concern.

However you have inspired me to post a vlog of my growing inguinal hernia. It's so cute how it pops out like a little water balloon when I cough.

Your two is mostly because of your one. It envelops and engrosses you as a person - and in many ways is just signalling the beginning of what most assume will drag you away from their lives entirely. Being constantly reminded about the fact that your complex, exciting friend that you loved is now most likely going to be endlessly busy and probably boring as hell (because of the fact they only have one thing going on) is depressing.

People are obviously happy for you. Doesn't mean more than, like, 5 people are interested or entertained by pregnancy updates or stories.

well no. try being pregnant and bringing up a subject other than pregnancy. nobody cares how **** is going at work or what I did over the weekend.

While the first point is very true, the second simply seems something all pregnant women convince themselves of. And it's not just mid-twenties guys who really don't give a ****, I've heard plenty of women complain about it irl as well. Agree with above that most people are just being polite, while of course some will be legitimately into it.

But yea, a very simple solution to it for hide feed but if I had to guess and people were honestly polled, itll be something that's eye-rolling and obnoxious to the majority of people.

I guess if there's anything to be narcissistic and annoying about a kid would be it, but still.

I just posted an FB poll:

Poll Time! Guys and girls, we've all love the baby and ultrasound pics. But are you interested in seeing growing belly pics of a pregnant friend? (poll is by gender)

Heck yeah! (I am female)

Ewwwww! (I am female)

Yup (I am male)

Nope (I am male)

FWIW my average FB friend is probably 35 with .75 kids.

It's not the pregnancy status updates (doc visits,cravings...etc) I was talking about, it's just the weekly bare belly pics.

Great example why parents on facebook suck so ****ing much.

Having children is a big thing in ones life, the most annoying part with everyone I've known who do the facebook kid thing is every one seems to follow this exact line of thought with some sense entitlement or higher being because you got knocked up. Maybe chemicals in the brain change or something.

From my cousin's husband:

"what is more important..buying the guns of your dreams... or buying baby clothes for a baby that is still 4 months away.......????????"

All of the replies suggested that he buy the guns. Some said to "protect his unborn child". So terrible. I actually liked this guy before being fb friends. I think I have to hide him.
