You have WAY more restraint than me if you didn't individually rip each one of these people saying "amazing it works!!" and such apart. At least normally these kind of number tricks are sort of hidden, but not recognizing that adding how many years you've been alive to what year you were born will equal 111 is such fail.

28 YO divorced male. These kinds of updates anger me the most for some reason, although I don't really know why. Even if there was two words added on at the end of it explaining what happened that made it a great day it would be completely acceptable to me, but these kind can only be trumped by the equivalent but in a negative fashion stating something horrible happened, but not ever stating what it was.

#4 which is literally the only reason I am on facebook is to get people out to events/concerts/shows and to build internet name recognition. Since everyone is on facebook and facebook has music fan pages, it is the easiest quick and dirty way to get people to come to your shows. My updates are almost exclusively music-related so people in my field (conductors, directors, instrumentalists and other singers) can see that I am working/moving my way up and my friends can keep updated on career stuff. I never post more than once a day and avoid spam invites (ie people who have a reasonable expectation to come to my show, not someone who lives in another country I met 8 years ago and never talk to).

Yeah, jesus this. And if a chick is pregnant keeping her family and friends informed is so ****ing standard. Obviously you can take it to far, but some complaints in here are just terrible.

Im kind of a dick too, I would say I have 60% of people blocked from my news feed but there is nothing wrong with having a your child as your profile pic.

I love those people who use Facebook to microblog during their vacations -- but instead of updating with anything interesting, they feel the need to populate everyone's news feeds with completely mundane updates from their "awesome vacation". Here's one particularly pathetic exchange from two late-20's girls that I know during their recent trip to Key West:

These mouth breathers were actually using Facebook to communicate to one another. Ugh.

I prefer the girl drama that I see all the time. Hilariously entertaining.

I think the main reason that this function hasn't been implemented in the site is that they want to promote and maintain a positive image. Plus, it's probably similar to the idea of the social etiquette where you put on a fake image when you go out with friends. You know, the one where everything in your life is in order and when people try to make small talk you BS your way through it as you finish your drink.

On a smaller scale it's like when you see an acquaintance and they stop to say hi they ask, "how is life?" What are you say? "Same old. Everything's fine. What about you?" What, are you really gonna bitch and moan complaining to this guy how you're stressed at work, you have debts up the ass, and the wife has been giving more **** as of late? Obviously, not. You're just gonna put on the fake "everything's cool" image.

In the same vein nobody wants that negative **** on FB with that one guy hating on everything. It makes things unpleasant.
