Meh, that quote isn't that bad. "Breadth" might be a better word but she's saying she values experiences, which is a pretty normal thing to value. Some people really do just sleep-walk through life though. Sure it's a bit "hey look at me I want to see the world!" but it's not as terrible as baby poop.

either you're close enough to the person to have enough empathy to tolerate what it's like for them to raise a toddler and their impulse to share their experience of it on FB (and probably 80% of all of their conversations IRL, which is FARKING NORMAL BEHAVIOR for new parents), or you calmly block the person from your feed and stop being flabbergasted that humans are human

I'll admit, it is pretty standard for first-time parents to want to share every little thing their toddler does, because it's the first time for everything and they think it's awesome and cute. They just need to learn to step back and recognize that 99.8% of it is of zero interest to anyone except the other parents/grandparents/etc.

If your precocious child says something exceptionally funny, go ahead and post it, I like kids and will probably enjoy it. But if it's part of a stream of posts about mundane toddler ****, it'll go ignored.

Anecdotal evidence:
FB friend goes on multiple times daily about every little thing the little "pooper" is doing. I take credit for saving the little girl wonder an ugly school age experience and nipped that adorable nickname in the bud.

Second anecdote: My sister actually called called her son 'booger' for a while. wtf. I saved him on the nickname issue, but she tossed other challenges his way that took years to overcome.

Make that 6,000,001.

This article inspired me to do what I've put off for months now: deactivating my FB account (apparently you can't actually delete it). Thanks for the nudge neuroman. I don't need hundreds of "friends" I only knew tangentially irl.

^ It will eventually delete. I think you have to deactivate, then not sign in for 60 days or something. I did this too...but the weird thing is I'm still not entirely sure my account is gone...I just assume it is (because I don't want to test re-logging in and then reactivate it)

When my wife and I were considering names for our kids, I processed every nominee through the 'what will kids on the playground turn this into' filter.

My wife is into literature and was picking names like Flannery.

Also, my name is Harold which is the go-to name for geeks and other targets of ridicule on TV. Didn't want to subject my kids to that.

wow...you suck.

When there is an "is", it forces you to write around it. Not quite the same as just adding an "is" when you feel like it.

You really made sure your updates were grammatically correct with the 'is' at the beginning? You'd annoy me too.

Hmmm, the new bulb isn't working either ... let's test the bulb in another fixture ... weird, works great! I guess the lamp's broke ... Oh, hey, the lamp's not plugged in ... Hmmm, guess I should retrieve the old bulb from the trash ... Hey look at that, the lamp AND the old bulb still works ... *facepalm*"

You say plenty, but seriously no. I have no dads on my FB account updating me about their kids. I have maybe a dozen females who don't post anyhting else as friends.
