Your email is encrypted, or at least it should be. Facebook didn't even offer https until January of this year, and it's still not the default. Look up 'firesheep' if you want more info.

Firesheep seems interesting but the existence of a tool is a long way from "completely standard" (and illegal) adoption of that tool by legitimate businesses. Also unless you're browsing facebook on their network during your interview, I don't understand the supposed attack vector.
