LOL at trolling Alobar about walking in the heat for 4 or 5 hours. Nice play.

I have no idea who Alobar is. But probably 95% of America would be physically unable to do it. So if I'm talking to the wrong person, lol @ me I guess. Sick job jumping on someone for not knowing personal info about another poster...

Dude, it's not that hard. Particularly if the longest leg is 200 yards...

I will be the guy in the funny hat if anyone wants to stop by, depending on the time I may or may not be coherent, so I apologize in advance for my behavior

I will be posting updates to twitter at @ablissful24

I am starting at 10am and finishing at 10am. Im not stopping even if I fall way behind pace, part of the reason I wanted to do this was to see how far your average schmuck could go, so bitching out after 10 hours doesnt do anything for that.

I have $1500 on myself and will win $3400 if I do it ($100 if I get to 75 miles).

I am excited and nervous, Im sure I will learn a lot about myself in the coming 24 hours, I really have no idea at all what to expect, as this is far longer and farther than I obviously have ever gone, and is completely unknown territory and by many accounts I am a damn fool for even trying. My only goal is to give it everything I have, which is kind of weird because I have no idea how much I actually have to give, I am about to find out tho. Either way regardless of the outcome Ill be remembering this experience for the rest of my life so it should be pretty interesting

over/under on when start peeing from my butt is 8pm

over/under on the first time I break down and cry is 2am

Wow, that's sick.

Alobar can say that then. Mostly I figured someone saying that is a dumb overweight "jock" who only benches and does curls in the gym and thinks golf is 9 holes of drinking beer in a cart. I was wrong.

lolololool at America if 5% of us can do something as easy as carrying a bag for a couple hours with dozens of opportunities to set the bag down. I say this as someone who has played 18 holes in the August Arizona heat, and I'm by no means healthy.

Look, I have walked 18 in miserable heat on dozens of occasions. I don't think it's that hard. But do you have any idea how out of shape and worthless the average American is?

Yeah this. I'd say a good 50% of men between ages 18-35 can get through army basic training. Sunscreen and plenty of water and 85% of men between 18-50 could do 18 holes of golf (given they aren't at 15 strokes on every hole or something absurd).

Schu, aren't a lot of golfers out of shape and worthless? Playing 18 holes of golf in 100+ weather sounds miserable but it's not an accomplishment.

not really an accomplishment still but if they were walking and not carting that's not really a light workout in that kind of heat.

How many miles is 18 holes of golf?

It's about as light a workout as you can have without needing to use air quotes.

The out of shape ones sure as hell aren't going out and walking 18 when it's 100 degrees out. Most people ride carts.

The number is higher than 5%, but it still isn't a walk in the park, pun intended

Every estimate I've seen is between 4 and 6. Often hilly terrain.

You're carrying a 30-40-pound bag as well, which usually is no big deal but the last couple holes it starts to get pretty heavy.

I think the backlash is you're making it sound like some superhuman feat, when in reality, it's probably just mildly tiring for the average in shape person. I'd be wiped out for sure but heat does weird things to me. For an out of shape person, it's practically a death march.

Just to be clear, Alobar didn't make the 100 miles – his failure seemed primarily due to the heat. Can't quite remember but I think he made 40 miles or so...?

Anyway, threads a pretty interesting read with a good video of his legs cramping and twitching looking like there are about a thousand worms squirming under his skin.

It doesn't really take too long to read to get to the point where he quit as he was only tweeting updates every couple of hours. If I remember correctly, a lot of the thread is just people discussing the aftermath of the walk.

And my point is that the average person isn't close to in shape. Therefore, Death march.

Having been the out of shape person playing golf and more recently hiking I'd have to say that walking a bit then stopping for almost as long as you were walking is a lot easier than walking up hill for 90% of the time. The weight of the clubs doesn't even things out.

Most I've ever golfed was 9 holes, and that was awful. 18 holes is impossible with or without a cart because **** that.

I think the main point to take away from this is golf sucks.

Alobar didn't stop every couple hundred yards to wait for his buddies to tee off, walk to a ball 4-8+ times per hole, wait for the party in front of him to finish, etc. I guess it's possible that only a small number of Americans can walk 18 in the heat but again, lolololololol at Americans if true.
