I dunno - infinitely billion people care what kim kardashian is doing because apparently she's famous for some reason

if my friend tweeted that they were going to get a haircut at some fancy place or something like that I'd probably laugh at them

I'm probably not a twitter target audience member

That girl I posted about a while ago, how she is rich and mildly attractive and every status is a brag. Went to Hawaii (from Sydney) last week. Posts pic of business class ticket. Posts 1 pic per day of the beach, 1 pic per evening of sunset at beach, at least 2 meals a day, a pic with 22 bags from designer shops with "just went shopping". Checks into "dewings on dodson" (her last name on her rich street on the water) 2 hours ago and now just checked into the most expensive restaurant around.

Worst bit is bitch isn't even *THAT* rich. Her high school cost like 4k a year where as most of her friends went to schools that cost 20-30k a year.

I have a twitter account and have one follower - a complete stranger who somehow found me when I've never actually tweeted anything. In fact, I've forgotten my twitter password.

I would like to know why that random person decided to follow me, though.

There's a ton of twitter bots. Use the wrong keyword and they'll follow you. I'd wager if you look a their profile or tweets you'll see a big festival of links.

A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that 1,100 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by, and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace, and stopped for a few seconds, and then hurried up to meet his schedule.

A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping, and continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried, but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally, the mother pushed hard, and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money, but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the most talented musicians in the world. He had just played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, on a violin worth $3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste, and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?
i think this viral post is beyond obnoxious

It's not entirely accurate either. There's a good article written about it http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...401721_pf.html

And a short video about it in which a woman comes into view at 1:35, immediately recognizes him, then stands there and watches until he stops playing, before going up to talk to him.

Yea, I wasn't trying to hate on the status too much, mostly just saw it as an opportunity to post the article which I enjoyed.

Also, for the longest time I thought your avatar was from some random rap video, and when I finally came across the video it's from recently, I stopped and went "that's Autocratic's avatar!" /cool story bro

of course she's not. rich people don't brag about flying business/first cuz they do it all the time and its just standard. nor do they post their high end shopping bags... that's about as pointless as a normal person posting an h&m bag and saying OMG LOOK I WENT SHOPPING.

i've got a friend who does the whole shopping bag posting thing and also checks into airport lounges all the time to say OMG LOOK AT ME I HAVE PRIORITY STATUS (he travels a lot for work) and posts pics of cheap champagne bottles etc. etc. and it's just pure lolz.

posting the vacation pics is standard and completely fine though... dunno why you'd hate on her for that. wtf are you supposed to post on facebook if not vacation pics?

would take a long time recoup your start-up capital of a 3.5 million dollar instrument though (and 40 years or whatever to train to become the best player in the world)

there was a real article about that which was quite good, think it was 5 years ago or something. not sure why its back in the status rotation.

Make friends with people that would post interesting articles, videos, pictures, jokes, or opinions?

It's crazy how wildly successful twitter is when it is still so misunderstood.

Some of you may have seen the photo by now. A photo of Whitney Houston and an army guy. It basically says "Crackhead dies, millions mourn. National hero dies, no one mourns." I commented "how many smash hits did that guy have?" No replies yet =(

You could go with something like "Yes, it is a tragedy how many crackheads are in the military."

Yeah I know. I'm in the military, and it pisses me off. I typed out a pissed off reply to a fellow military member who posted the pic you're talking about (or a similar one). It was basically "Shut your sanctimonious mouth. If you hadn't seen this pic on Reddit or wherever, would YOU have known that eight Marines were killed in Afghanistan this week? We all signed up for a lot of different reasons, and we all knew that it could be dangerous. That doesn't mean that everyone else should spend their time worshiping us as heroes, and it doesn't mean you should piss in somebody's Cheerios for being upset that a musician they like died."
