A little well deserved schadenfruede for the thread.

I work part time as a sommelier at a restaurant that is closed for 3 weeks for renovation. The restaurant is naturally worried about a large portion of the staff leaving during the close.

A girl who works there posted one of those "I'm leaving for Germany for 11 months" faux awareness status. The scheduling manager read this on facebook and reassigned her shifts first two weeks, assuming she was quitting. Probably cost her $1500 dollars.

I'm not sure how awesome it is to use a facebook status about something happening in a year to change somebody's shifts now. Is this a nice enough place that there's a reasonable expectation that any waitstaff would be expected to be around in 11 months?

Seriously? How do people think this is awesome? It would piss me off if my Manager took actions based off of my Facebook status instead of, you know, ****ing talking to me.

Actually more like 50k. This is a very slow time of year.

Not sure that I get the "whose schedule is out of her hands" part.

To be fair, they asked the staff to confirm if they planned to stay. I don't know if she confirmed with the manager before posting the status. She also followed with "...I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on the details and my going away party." and there was a trail of comments that she didn't correct.

Thole whole "I'm going to _____ for ___ months" is just so stupid and so distant from the reason they give of doing it, that because it's a stupid attempt of attention-grabbing and question-mining, I do not feel bad if there are repercussions based on the confusion that ensues.

Clearly the girl is an idiot for not telling the manager that she was going to leave the country, and the manager is an idiot for not talking to her to confirm what he read on facebook

All parties involved sound like they need a steel-toe boot to the head.

I fault the manager here more than her, but it is kind of funny that she's getting screwed over for something so stupid as a fake status update for make benefit breastisis.
