Yes they're a thing 30 years ago before we nearly eradicated chicken pox with vaccinations. The next generation will only contract the disease if their parents are negligent dummies. In a few years of public vaccination Ontario's rate of doctors visits for pox went from 25/1000 to 3/1000 and it continues to drop.

I wish I'd been taken to one. I had chicken pox when I was 15 and it was ****ing horrific (I had blisters under my eyelids and in my mouth!)

actually the increase of autism to the increase of vaccines is like the increase of the warming of the globe to the increase of co2 emissions. there is no way to tell what causes things, does correlation equal causation? people are vilified for either position.

There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that vaccines cause autism. Scientific American article on why the rate of autism diagnoses has increased here.

Quote:
Increased awareness of autism has undoubtedly contributed to its rise in prevalence, Durkin says.

Until the 1980s, many people with autism were institutionalized, rendering them effectively invisible. Studies show that parents who are aware of autism’s presentation—by living near someone with the condition, for example—aremore likely to seek a diagnosis for their children than parents with no knowledge of the condition. Living close to urban centers and having access to good medical care also boost the likelihood of diagnosis.

Greater awareness of autism is also likely to boost CDC estimates by increasing the chances that autism traits, such as lack of eye contact, show up in school and medical records, says Fombonne.

Policy changes may have also played a role. In 2006, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended screening all children for autism during routine pediatrician visits at 18 and 24 months of age. This move may have led to diagnoses for children who would otherwise have slipped under the radar.
There is loads of evidence to suggest that human CO2 emissions contribute to climate change. NASA article here.

In both cases there is a clear scientific consensus on which position is correct.

How did they locate their scientists for this "research"? Let's consult the paper.

Quote:
To address this, we reconstruct the frames of one group of experts who have not received much attention in previous research and yet play a central role in understanding industry responses Ė professional experts in petroleum and related industries.
Yeah dude. They put out a survey in the magazine of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), which (due to Alberta's large shale oil reserves) contains huge numbers of people who work in the petroleum industry. APEGA has 40,000 members and they received 1,077 completed surveys, thus also introducing massive selection bias.

So yeah - turns out when you survey people who largely work in the petroleum industry and you select the 1 in 40 most opinionated of them to do a survey, you get a decent chunk of people who think climate change is alarmism. Or at least you did 5 years ago, in 2013, before we had several more hottest years on record.

This James Taylor guy describes this paper as PEER-REVIEWED, so how was such a poorly-designed study allowed to be published? Because that wasn't what they were studying. From the abstract:

Quote:
This paper examines the framings and identity work associated with professionalsí discursive construction of climate change science, their legitimation of themselves as experts on Ďthe truthí, and their attitudes towards regulatory measures.
This is a social sciences paper. It wasn't seeking to give an estimate of the number of scientists who are skeptical of global warming. That's Taylor's doing. Would you agree that the way he presented the paper - as a peer-reviewed estimate - was wilfully dishonest?

I noticed them starting on Halloween putting on my costume to go trick or treating.I did not say a word until trick or treating was over. Then i stayed home from school for a week eating candy and playing NES. It was an awesome week.

Probably best to not infect your kids with chicken pox so you get more candy Johnny regardless of how much it will improve their costumes!

Wat?

No one is claiming that the number of vaccinations given or the number of people receiving vaccinations have decreased. No one is claiming that the number of people diagnosed with autism has increased. The increased rate of autism diagnoses is a result of increased awareness and changes in how the condition is recorded.

Guess where Taylor's funding comes from? (Spoiler alert: it's https://www.sourcewatch.org/index.ph...s_Capital_Fund and Exxon)

Correct. No reason to believe the lower rates of vaccination are responsible for the increase in ASD diagnoses though.

What is the deal with people posting to wish their spouse a happy birthday or anniversary? Am I the only one who thinks that is ultra lame? Can't you just say it in person?

People do **** like this all the time. It's obvious, they want to let everyone know they said it so their spouse isn't asked stupid questions from their girlfriends why their husband didn't tell them happy bday.

It's one more annoying thing about Facebook which leads me away from it. Frauds I tell You! All Frauds!

I have a friend and his gf post on FB, and the two of them go back and forth posting and replying. So annoying, but I'm not 100% this is the way they really communicate.

"When an NFL ref blows a call and changes the outcome of a game like this they should be fired. It's ridiculous to allow some muscle flexing donkey to stick his nose where it doesnt belong and completely change everything. I'm so angry and disgusted with this ****."
