I had a kid in my life, a young girl, from age 7 to 19. I was in a stepdad-ish role. My biggest fear was that I would let her down like this. I've seen too many movies where the girl is sitting on the curb waiting for her daddy to come pick her up, while her Mom sits inside crying because she knows the Dad is a loser.

So goddammit I was ALWAYS there. I never screwed that part up. Even if I was deathly hungover I showed up. I never went out and did a bunch of blow or any kind of heavy partying the night before I had plans with the kid. Having plans with her the next day was literally the only thing that could slow me down at that point in my life.

Of course I still screwed a bunch of other parts up - the worst being getting in yelling fights with her Mom in front of her. And the kid hearing me scream obscenities at my computer monitor playing poker. And when I was like 38 a 19-year-old hit on me one time and I stupidly posted in OOT should I go out with her and of course the answer was a resounding yes so I did but nothing happened which I didn't want it to and **** punctation. Which her mom later used against me when the kid turned 19.

Anyway my whole point is that it's like how generals are always fighting the last war. I did everything I could to not let that kid down and still blew it. I screwed up so many parts - although I still am sure that ultimately I was a net positive in her life. But it still shattered my heart when her mom pulled her out of my life.

Damn Suzzer. If you were not a net positive in her life which is likely, I’m sure there was plenty of positive in the mix and that matters a lot.

Half of the things people post on here I say the same thing to myself. I've definitely got some questionable acquaintances on facebook, but I have a hard time believing some of these people actually exist.

I wasn't tying to personally attack him. When he posts that he has made a lot of mistakes as a parent I just said that I wasn't surprised. I'm not saying he is a terrible dad - I just said he was likely a below average one. Half of all the dads out there are below average so it isn't like I'm not taking some huge dig at him.

You can't say I don't know him or what I said was unprovoked. I haven't hung out with him, but anyone who has seen his post history knows he is a bad and angry person - especially someone who has been the target of his personal attacks. The guy has been a bully towards me for years.

Haha. No, like most people, I'm not hurt by something someone says to me on the Internet - especially if they are untrue. This don't care attitude was formed mostly in the political threads of 2+2 where mods have down such a poor job policing that it has prevented any real political discussion from occurring and the people running the site supposedly talked about getting rid of the political forums all together. I get that modding is an unpaid job and you get what you pay for but it is still surprising how bad it is.

This view is reinforced when such a terrible poster who personally attacks so many posters (or at least used to) is defended when someone he personally attacked for so long suggests she/he isn't surprised that the poster isn't one of the top 50% of dads in the world.

For the record Bahba is the guy who said he'd rather fight an entire village in Mexico rather than pay an illegal $5 toll - and therefore he can never go to Mexico. I believe the exact quote was "I don't back down from a challenge" or something just as profoundly stupid. The subtext was painfully clear - he felt vindicated in his instinct that brown people are to be avoided at all costs.

He's also the supposed wealth advisor who didn't understand how marginal tax brackets work. He thought if you make $1 more than $X, where $X is the income threshold for the next tax bracket, your entire income is taxed at the higher rate.
