Cross posting because I'm raging.

This is a post from high school acquaintance who peaked at 17 and became a football coach at the same school we attended has me tilting hard. Have an army of dude bros calling me a snowflake for informing them how lazy and unnecessary it is for a coach to rely on screaming profanities at kids to establish dominance / compliance / whatever, especially given the harmful unintended consequences of doing so.

Mother ****er you see these kids daily for years on end! Build a healthy relationship, set limits corrrctly and go from there. Swear to god it's gonna be bad the first time some man child berates my kid for dropping the sportsball.

I don't think you're necessarily wrong, but more importantly I think your son should be taught to respect authority figures and learning to keep cool while being yelled at is a good skill too

yeah, coaches yelling at kids is fine. I don't think he's preaching that coaches yell at kids all the time, but if you've been part of sports, there is definitely a time and place for it.

You've never had a coach yell at you? I used the word "kids", probably should have used the word "teenagers". A coach probably shouldn't yell at a 6 year old for not doing something. But once you're 13+ or so, nothing wrong with a spray from the coach every now and then.

There's nothing wrong with yelling at someone as a form of discipline, but there should be something specific they have done wrong. From memory (I think this is from Freakonomics, maybe?) yelling at athletes has been proven ineffective in improving performance by studies, but coaches near universally believe it works because of reversion to the mean. After a particularly bad performance, the next performance from the athlete is likely to be better no matter what you do.

This is a kind of longwinded way to say that the issue here is that the sort of person who posts that on Facebook is liable to subscribe to the theory that you just yell at people when they mess up.

Can we get some insights about these studies, Kamikam? From her most recent post I am left assuming she spent years following rich and poor people and tracking their spending habits.

IIRC: law, political science, french literature (I live in the french speaking part of Switzerland), all at university, usually for 1, 2 or 3 (?) semesters and later on some interior designer school.

Unlike in most other countries, public (read: 99% free) universities in Switzerland offer a very high level of education and it's not unusual for rich kids supported by their parents to spend the biggest part of their 20s there actually not doing **** but still pretending they're putting in hard work.

Typically stops before you're in your 30s though lol. Then again no idea what she's been doing for the last few years. You can only fail classes/Uni sections for so long I guess. Chances she has a job and isn't posting (gloating/complaining) about it are like 1%.

Maybe you're onto something and she took up sociology in a private school and learned a lot about rich and poor people spending habits

I'm sure statistics on this are all over the place considering the difficulty it likely is to track this, but curious myself I looked this up. The source I read said 80% of millionaires didn't inherit their wealth.

Another source said that the extremely wealth inherited a smaller % of their wealth than the middle class and that according to their simulations if we significantly increased estate taxes it would hurt the middle class more than the extremely wealthy to the point that it would negatively effect everyone's favorite problem that isn't a problem - wealth inequality.
