It makes me want to study psychology just to understand this kind of narcissism. I think a large percentage of us secretly deep-down us would love to brag about ourselves - maybe not to this extent or this overtly - but in some form or another.
But the non-narcissists in that group have enough built-in empathy, or a good enough "ear" to how we would come off, or whatever you want to call it, to know no one else wants to hear that. I think narcissism is more just lack of being able to put yourself in other's shoes, or not caring - than some kind of overblown self-love that others don't have.
