I consider myself pretty adept at managing privacy / security settings, but I honestly can't find a global setting that limits the visibility of my likes and comments. The privacy options no longer include this option, and every time I comment on anyone's status it appears in the ticker until I go to my own profile and manually delete the "recent activity." If I'm missing something, please help!

Pretty sure it's different now. Before I could only see when one of my friends posted on another friend's wall. Now I can see when they post on anyone's wall. And if I click the update, I can see the post and whatever they're commenting on - from someone I'm not even friends with.

Although I think what might be happening is you can only see when they comment on someone else's wall who has made their wall available to "friends of friends". Because any time I click on that person's wall, I can still see it.

So the big difference is that even though before you could have seen that friend of a friend's wall, you wouldn't have seen the comment from your friend in your feed. I think.

I will investigate a little more.

There's a very good chance that most of these were already going out to anyone who watched their News Feed instead of Live Feed.

Just out of curiosity, try making your wall visible to friends only, and not friends of friends (yes I know it's a different thing). See what happens.

I'm refusing to unsubscribe from anyone who posts that status update out of principle.

Yeah they're obviously the people with the juiciest Comments and the most scandalous Likes.

Visibility of comments and likes is governed by the privacy settings of the other person(the person whose wall you are posting on, etc.), obviously. Otherwise comment threads would be unreadable. Suzzer, Top News used to filter that sort of stuff out, but you can only see it now if you could've seen it before. It's just you weren't looking at it before. The new miniticker is ******ed because of that, but it's not a change to privacy.

By the way, eliminating the note "ABC commented on XYZ's status" from your wall does not do anything to whether it appears in other people's newsfeeds. It's social networking, guys, if you want a comment to be private send it to their inbox.

Did you lose your profile? Can you summarize the differences in a nutshell?

I am actually starting to hate it. Basically if you use FB a lot and you want a history of your life then you'll like it but if like me you hardly use FB then you will not like it.

You lose your profile.

Instead you have a very mini profile with just the basic info 4 lines. Next to that there are four icons for friends, photos, map, and likes

Map is the most depressing for me as I don't enter anything so apparently the only two places I have been is home and my GF's business in the last three years.

The rest of the screen is a two column summery of recent activity with events and likes at the bottom of each column.

The top right hand corner is a time line that starts with Born at the bottom and then has years listed. In my case starting in 2007 when I joined. If you click on any year it then shows months for that year. As you click your profile changes to what it was like on that date. Again for people who use Facebook this might be great but since I don't enter anything for months at a time I get these big black spaces.

Oh man people are going to FLIP OUT. Some people spend a lot of time on their profile. That just goes poof? Why not at least keep it around?

I have a prediction that if they actually roll this out, and actually kill the profile to do it, there will be a gigantic bruhaha and they will have to roll it back. Should be interesting...

Actually your profile is not completely gone. Below the 4 line summery is an about button. Clicking on that now takes you to a profile although it is different. Again it is two column format but it has all the stuff from before.

Also there is a feature to write on other people's timelines. Not sure how that works since I need someone with a timeline to test it on.

The Friends, photos, maps, and likes actually expand into a 2 by 4 row of icons. The other two are notes and subscriptions. Two are blank and you can add apps but now available yet. I figure you might be able to change the others when this rolls out so the map can likely go.

Ok, that makes more sense. I couldn't see them just throwing all that stuff out.

I think people who use FB will like it after the initial shock. The way this is designed though you'll either start using FB compulsively or likely quit. I think they are hoping people will use it compulsively. As it currently stands I have 2 places, 0 photos, 0 life events. The idea of going back and adding all of those things manually is just not appealing so I won't. For people who already have most of that stuff entered and who care enough to enter the rest this isn't bad.

wow, saw that on my gf's fb feed, that didn't take long to propagate

zuckerberg has publicly stated that he believes privacy is an anachronism and most people don't care anyway. he's going to treat facebook accordingly.

and he also said people who trust him with their data are ****ing idiots. im sure he's grown up some since then, but his stance on privacy is a bit concerning. Plus can't deny some of the more shadier practices FB has been involved in (Zynga, Google smear campaign, etc).

When it comes to ads in their news feed am I the only one that has these?

I just had Disney and AGM. I don't like or subscribe to anything related to these companies.

I would agree with this. I don't put anything on Facebook that I don't want to be public information - and I think that anyone that does is an idiot.

I've never really understood people that get too worried about Facebook and privacy issues. Even if Facebook was a company that made privacy the number one priority how can you consider something shared with dozens or hundreds of other people private?
