Well TBF I guess it's better than "I'm not doing anything for St Patty's, man it sucks that I've lost all of my freedom because I got knocked up. I'll likely finish a bottle of wine tonight after the baby is asleep to drown my sorrows."

I generally agree that like 90% of the stuff posted about peoples kids, or being a parent is fairly silly. It's really my own fault for simply not hiding it I guess, but it's generally worth it not to to see the other content that they sometimes provide.

I don't really know why it bothers me so much, it just often comes off to me as if they're attempting to brag every time they say something about the fact that they have kids. I don't like kids, and don't really view it as some sort of accomplishment. OMG you had sex without BC, want a cookie?

I mean the "I'm relaxing with the kid no binge drinking tonight!" is whatever but the pretty much unsolicited "I KNOW ISNT IT GREAT?! I WOULDNT GIVE UP BREEDING FOR ANYTHING" just reeks of a pathetic attempt at validation to a social network that doesn't give a ****, I can think of one pregnant friend on there that didn't seem to follow this same underlying pattern of a transparent need for validation/attention.

Similarly I think the worst one I see a lot is "omg Mike just made me dinner/took me to the Cheesecake Factory and bought me flowers I have the best man ever!" (these banal comments advertising normal things in pretty much any relationship always seem to be the girls who are constantly fluctuating in relationships to boot.)

I guess it's a thin line between just wanting to share things in your life with friends and narcissism rooted in some sort of insecurity but the most glaring ones in the latter category in my experience are these types of examples.

This thread sure contains a lot of AIDZ in it for anyone with a functioning soul.

(It also makes we wonder if I too had a raging case of PMSy male tunnel vision during my early twenties that I've conveniently forgotten about.)

who said anything about bare!

I try to be fully clothed in the majority of my facebook pictures. There might be a bikini shot or two in there somewhere, but yeah, no.

I'm one of those FREAKS who thinks women look sexy pregnant. I don't mind it. I have one FB friend (my wife's 19 yo white trash cousin) who constantly posts preggo pics (bare belly). Doesn't bother me. If they post a pic of the placenta I would probably not like it.

I think she once posted something like "Ugh, when is this baby gonna be here already!?!?" lol. White trashaments.

I have two fairly discrete sets of friends with kids. One group is the group that got pregnant in high school or right after and have no real life accomplishments aside from their kids. The other group are friends that went on to University/College and have fairly successful jobs.

I see WAY more posts about kids from the first set and many of them are trying to show off how good/fun their kid is, and how good they are as a parent. These are annoying and have gotten a few people blocked - and I agree they're almost always trying to get validation/attention for their life situation.

My friends that had kids later in life post about them occasionally (which is reasonable since they are a big part of their life) but are almost always interesting pictures or stories.

I'd say I've noticed the exact same thing, JJ. I think I've had 3 preggos since joining FB. 2 of them are 30-ish professional women I've worked with/went to college with, and in both cases it was their first child. They posted some comment maybe once a month about the baby kicking. Then, once it was born, some tactful pics. The third is the 19 yo redneck girl I posted about above. She just got married to a 30 year old dude with 4 kids and was preggers within a month. Bare-bellied pics every few weeks (taken on her phone in the bathroom mirror at the daycare she works at) and all kinds of comments (mostly dumb stuff like "ugh being preggo is so hard!" or "When is he gonna be here!?") Yes she used the term preggo when referencing herself.

My experience is very similar, and the majority of my pregnant fb friends are in this first set. It just reminds me/makes me believe the Idiocracy phenomenon is quite real and I get angsty I guess.

That doesn't really have anything to do with being pregnant, you're just comparing successful 30 year olds with 19 year old girls who are blogging. Pongo sure does look smug in that avatar though.

Ok I know the title is facebook messages, but I don't have facebook so I'm gonna do BBM instead.

I have this one girl on there that I cannot delete as she is important in the night life scene and always helps me get in to random events when I'm in town.

She updates her bbm status at minimum 25 times a day, every time I click on recent updates, her name is top of the list, she'll do things like update her status just to add '...' to it..

just 5 mins ago

'I'm about to have a moment'
'longest night turned in to longest morning turned in to longest day'
'just need to get home and sleep'
'finally home, can't wait to sleep'
'ugh i have to clean before bed'
'yay i have chicken wings'
'Sleepin with the Angles.... Good night my loves'
'Sleepin with the Angles.... Good night my loves....'
'Sleepin with the Angles.... Good night my loves.... shhhh'

it litterally goes on like this all day long.. it's unbelievable.

My absolute worst pet peeve regarding status updates beyond this stuff is bull**** philosophical trying to be deep status udpates.

'it's so hard when you fall for someone who wont catch you'
'every day is a new beginning, I'm starting right, you can too'

there's a bunch of others which she has written at some point that i've forgotten thank god, me and a friend that also has her on bbm laugh at this **** all the time, he writes updates back like 'im sleeping with a hooker, **** angels' and such...

in my opinion status updates should be simply that. My status changes to notify ppl what city im in or what phone number im on and every so often something i find interesting like the billboard that says judgment day is coming may 21...

my picture has not changed since I got bbm and maybe im a nit, but i dont see the point in posting pictures every time you take one or posting status updates about how great your lunch was.

The updates that irritate me the most are those which try to down play how much of a party animal they are and what an achievement hangovers are. To wit:

Quote:
Out AGAIN tonight, should be another quiet night then, lol!
Quote:
Only been out drinking three times this week, lol, just the weekend to go then!
Quote:
Probably shouldn't have had those shots, lol, head is killing!
Also, anyone who updates when they are actually out and about is an instant-ban too. If you're having that much fun you'd think facebook might be the last thing on your mind but no, gotta keep your 800 friends abreast of all the fun and frolics.
