Here's another one: politics posts. Basically, people who are so sheltered that they cannot even conceive that someone outside their world view -ie white, middle class, urban liberal- exists. (I say this as someone who is also a white, urban, very socially liberal.)

Canada had a big election last night. The Conservatives (read: Republicans lite) won a huge victory, mostly because our version of the Democrats hired a wiener to run for Prime Minister who couldn't even get elected to Parliament by winning his own riding (this is like Obama running and losing Chicago).

The funny thing is that our version of right wing is basically American left and our left wing is, like, almost uncomfortably left.

That's pretty clearly a remnant of his post against Rob Ford, who aggressively tried to fight against bike riding in the city, eliminated plans for bike lanes, and is cutting public transportation across the board.

And it wasn't Alberta and Saskatchewan that elected Harper, it was everyone, including most of the GTA outside of the downtown core. The only thing I hate more than uninformed hippies trying to participate in the political process/debate is uninformed middleclass mouth-breathers that lash out at them for it, pretending their "worldly cynicism" is anything more than laziness. Ahem.

I was simplifying for people not familiar with Canada (aka most of the people/the non-douchebags in this thread).

I know the Rob Ford issue, I voted against him (and voted for the NDP this time around). I just think it's a funny image to protest a Prime Minister or anyone by telling someone to go ride your bike and listen to the radio.

I actually worked 100-hr weeks in Canadian politics for 2 years and ran a multimillion dollar political polling campaign for a provincial election, but yea wtf do I know...I am an uninformed, middle-class mouthbreather.

People are really wild with their "my way or the highway" views on politics. It's almost like the new religion to some people. You're either on our team or your going to hell and not worthy of living/voting/whatever!

Gawd, the updates on FB for the Canadian Election are rediculous. So many people have such strong opinions. Its annoying reading a page of FB updates where greater than 50% are political.

Recent fb post by dramatic girl: Uggh, seriously...these "I'm so above being the least bit thrilled about this whole Osama thing" holier-than-thou posts have been irking the **** out of me. Not to mention half of the things being "quoted" are being incorrectly quoted/attributed.

How is that different than the millions of Americans that have ZERO affiliation with the US armed forces or with people that lost their lives on 9/11?

They really irk me, so how bad was it that I posted a link to the full book (readable on google)? It's a pretty lame update, but that's like over 20 friends posting the MLK quote.

Correcting people over a well-intended, but false, MLK quote is probably worse than them mistakenly posting it.

In the grand scheme it doesn't matter. They just want to post something that makes them feel special and dignified. Just let it slide. These people will forget who MLK was in a week or two anyway.
