All,

My current fave ice cream combo:

Vanilla + olive oil + balsamic vinegar + sea salt.

sofocused: FU for posting that Talenti. I had to go get some after the raves in this thread.

27: Double FU for posting pistachio, one of my abs fav flavors. I went and got that today, damn so good. Now I'm gonna have to try that sea salt caramel (another fav of mine) sofocused rec'd.

27: Yeah, I used a decent but not great (Aceto de Modena, but not "Tradizionale") balsamic that was prob like $20-30 and it was delicious, but I bet even a decent $10-15 bottle would taste fine too. One time at some fancy Italian restaurant I had vanilla gelato with the super expensive $200+ for a 3oz bottle of the 25 or 30yo aged and that was sooooo good.

best ice is from turkey and not from italy imo.
if you should ever visit turkey, try it.
it is a shame that they dont export it.
it is more chewy. check out the picture at the right

Been trying to avoid this thread. I ate way too much ice cream and gelato over the past couple weeks and needed to lay off for a few days.

Def gonna give this a try. Which vanilla do you use for the base?

Nice to see you guys trying the Talenti SSC. That **** is so good! My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. I polished off a pint in like 9 minutes Saturday.

sofocused,

I think that was either http://threetwinsicecream.com/ or http://strausfamilycreamery.com/ - Whole Foods here carries a bunch of local ice creams in pints. I'm sure any fancy ice cream in pints would taste delicious. Good excuse for you to check out the Talenti vanilla bean!

BTW, the Talenti is $4.99/pt here and currently on sale for $3.99/pt, so pretty reasonable.

Talenti Vanilla Bean it is! I'll let you know what I think when I get around to trying it. It's the same price at Stop and Shop. $4.99 on sale for $3.99. I've never seen it not on sale though and its been months.

pistachio is my go-to, so sicilian pistachio was an easy call.
the last balsamic i bought was Villa Mandori, which I had tried at a friends house and was also my first time trying sweet, high-end balsamic a few years ago:

really a different animal from standard balsamic. then you put it on vanilla ice cream and forget it. mind was blown. runs $40something. i suggest you try something similar if you haven't.

el d i bet that Italian restaurant stuff was ridiculous. perfect capper.

can someone explain to me why I should be putting olive oil and basalmic on my ice cream instead of hot fudge and caramel?

only vanilla

CA,

The olive oil and sea salt is not for everyone, I think it is more for people who find traditional desserts a little too sweet.

The good balsamic on vanilla, though, I am pretty confident everyone would love that. Note that the aged Italian balsamic we're referring to is very different than standard balsamic vinegar used in salad dressings etc. The expensive Italian stuff is an awesome combo of intensely fruity and syrupy sweetness with sour vinegary flavor that combines to form something really delicious.

Good syrupy balsamic vinegar on vanilla ice cream is indeed the greatest combination ever. That woman with the business card (no balsamic "anything") is missing out.

That makes sense, thanks El D. I definitely don't find desserts too sweet; I've never had the fancy basalmic before.

So how was the pistachio??? I want to try it.

I've now tried the Tahitian Vanilla Bean, Caramel Cookie Crunch and Sea Salt Caramel. While none of them were bad, the Sea Salt Caramel was by far the best.

How about the Toasted Almond? Or Caribbean Coconut? Banana Chocolate Swirl?

This one must be deadly.

Best ice cream bar for typical supermarket stuff. The white chocalate one is real good too but I like the double caramel better.

IHM/so/27,

The Talenti Pistachio is great. Maybe just a TOUCH sweeter than perfection, but this ice cream is awesome. Definitely better than some more expensive ones. And the screw on lid makes me feel extra special.

Some of their flavors sound really good.

IcyHotMonkey- Where did you find that egg nog flavor listed? I don't see it listed on their website. I really think you need to pick up Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup next. I'd like to try some of their fruit flavors. The Raspberry looks really good, Blood Orange too.

El D- The screw on cap is the nuts. I started saving the empty containers, gonna use em for wire nuts and **** in my tool bag lol. Did you pick up a pint of Sea Salt Caramel to try?

I swear to you guys if you like chocolate you need to try B+J's Chocolate Therapy. Not even joking, when you peel off the cover your jaw is gonna hit the floor.

The Old World Eggnog is still for sale for sale and I assume is probably seasonal in stores.

Gotta try pistachio next. The vanilla based ones cant touch a full flavored pint. I want to try that peanut butter cup too. Lots of icecream in my future.

wow pistachio is phenomenal as well. i put mine in the basement beer fridge with the freezer cranked so it comes out rock hard and then softens a little. she said that.

also a big fan of the container as others have mentioned. can't not save them for everyday use.
