I went backpacking through Europe and had around one gelato a day. Between gelato, water, and coke zero I probably spent $500.

+1 to Graeters.

I really like Cold Stone Creamery. I think they keep their ice cream at a slightly higher temp than some places so it isn't so hard.

Also you Columbus people that say Graeters is the best, have you been to Jeni's? http://jenisicecreams.com/flavors-signature.html

They have some crazy flavors that a lot of people rave about.

this is my favorite type of ice cream, a simple vanilla with bits of something crisp, whether it be waffle cone, cookies, or candy bars

I am really liking Hollywood Gelato (Toronto) these days.

They have a small selection, but it is close and they have a few that I really like.

My favorite is roasted marshmallow which is a seasonal flavour. Its awesome, they also have banana creampie, oreo, Peanut Butter twix, etc.

There is another gelato place called La Paloma which has 50 - 60 flavours on display. Too many fruit flavours for my liking though. My favorite fruit flavour is probably Watermelon.

If anyone has any other good Toronto recommendations plz share

Store Bought - Rolo ice cream is my fovorite. Smartties is pretty good too but I don't think they have smarties in the states.

Home made - My wife makes kick ass cinammon ice cream for her store. Customers go nuts. Made from real cream though so it`ll fatten your ass up if you're not careful.

As others have said was in Italy last year and had Gelato twice a day. Glad I was only there for a few days or it would`ve started getting expensive.

I didn't get a chance to check out il laboratorio del gelato but I will make a point of it next time I'm in NYC.

Where do you get this? We tried to make this at home with an electric ice cream maker once in the 80s and just ended up blowing the motor out.

Pistachio is my benchmark gelato flavor. I have to get this flavor if I'm trying out a new place.

I had an Oberweis vanilla milkshake the other night. i was shocked when i ordered a large and they asked me for $7 + change. Took a while to make, but it was probably the most delicious shake I've ever had.

Highly recommend, but maybe go for the regular size.

I had creme fraiche ice cream at Bradley Ogden's the other day and it was incredible. I'm definitely gonna try and make my own.

Also the coconut ice cream at Lotus of Siam is incredible. So damn creamy.

Anyone from the Indianapolis area ever had Handel's? I've lived here for 5 years and just tried it for the first time a few weeks ago. There's a reason that there are 3 lines 10+ deep every night in the summer. Rivals Graeters imo.

I just came back from Rome and had gelato at the old bridge gelaterria near the vatican. I have to say it wasn't nearly as good as the gelato/sorbetto from a place called Blue Ice. They have several locations around the city. It was the first place we tried, and nothing we had since came close.

Hm, I live within walking distance of a large Graeter's and have never been there, like they advertise tours and such where you get to see ice cream being made.

Guess I should go sometime....

OK, as awesome as a discussion about random tiny regional brands of ice cream I can't buy where I live is, I think we're losing sight of the real issue here:

Aloysius gets paid in ice cream. Like gourmet, shipped from out-of-state ice cream($80 for 6 pints!). What sort of work do you do?
