Myself and 6 firends have all just committed to running a marathon. To give us extra motivation NOT to quit, we're going to punish anyone that doesn’t finish the race.

The punishment has to be something significant to really SUCK, but nothing too crazy that would cross the line of good fun between friends.

Some money can be involved if needed, but nothing too expensive (less then $100).

Got any good ideas?

Failure to finish = posting photo and contact info on craigslist men seeking men personals.

Or you could just bet money like the rest of us. Losing money sucks IMO.

for some set period of time,

every time he orders food from a sit-down restaurant, he must order it "ala mode"
he must do this even if he knows the restaurant does not have ice cream
if the server questions him on it, he must indicate that he is serious and his preference is for the ice cream to be put directly on the food
if the server refuses/brings it on the side/whatever, nothing happens
he does not have to eat the ice cream
he must keep a blog of any interesting happenings

Do you want it to be a fun punishment or a punishment that people really, really don't want to have to do?

Fun punishments are kinda lame as motivational tools imo.

Yeah, I agree. It can't be something that is bordeling fun for the quitter/loser or it would miss the entire point of the bet. With that said, it should still be in good fun (Japanese Suicide by way of Seppuku, seems a tad extreme).

While we are all excited right now, only one of us has ever run a race before. So it is pretty likely that at least someone will hit a point in the training that they will want to quit.

The punishmentfor quitting should be enough to give them that extra push through those tough spots.

Maybe something along the lines of the punishments/humiliations on 2M2MM.

^ the last two are solid.

A week might be a bit long for the "Yes", "No" idea, but it has potential.

Mowing the winners' lawn (and washing their cars) while wearing a dress is great.

I knew I could count on poker players for a good prop bet type punishment.

Any other ideas?

Henna tattoo somewhere visible of the other person's name. Or anything in general they would hate like a sports team, politician, ex girlfriend, etc
