Lapka, I haven't been paying attention that closely, but don't you have Thremp's personal info and haven't you threatened to use it?

LKJ has showed that the internet is in fact objectively different because a significant amount of people feel like social norms or constructs exist in a different way than they do IRL. This goes way deeper then that simple sentence but Im not too interested to explain it ATM but think of people from different cultures in the same online place, they might do something you deem unacceptable but which is completely acceptable in their IRL culture.

In general some people will be a bit harsher in how they react or judge, some people will open up a lot more, some people might even tell less on the internet. Social constructs and norms aren't what you want them to be, they are what society deems acceptable in a time and place.

For the place 'Internet' these socials norms etc are different simply because people act different on the internet. The fact that you disagree with them doing so doesn't change the acceptable norm one single bit, it just means you disagree. Unless you want to argue that my argument (The internet is different because people behave differently) is wrong and it can be observed as such off course.

If someone were to provide an ongoing live feed of their drunk driving, it would make anyone contacting their family a good citizen.

We're not talking about that? But it would depend is the obvious and only answer.

If you just transfer the same into RL. If you get talked too exactly like **** talk on the internet, if someone behaves towards you like **** behave on the internet only in RL would your reaction be different in RL?
Probably the same it would be here, either ignore it or talk **** back. I certainly wouldn't run and go tell their family about it.

I would have thought that Babs could have defused the situation with his family by simply explaining, "The plan was not to lose, it was to win."

Babs apparently made an amateur-level website about jmakin, who has threatened legal action and tdad contact. Babs made an unhinged return for an hour or something to roar about how jmakin singlehandedly ruined Babs's relationship with his parents.

That's pretty much it.

Babs visited once or twice to talk about his turtle and cat and exchange pleasantries. Banned noted that tdad's condo is for sale.

Didn't pick up on that one. So Babs is living in his mom's basement / with sister / with coyotes?

Heinous to me is physical violence, sexual abuse etc I'm not going to list everything I find heinous but I imagine my views aren't dissimilar to most societal views on this. I don't think someone being verbally abusive on the internet is a heinous act and I certainly wouldn't think of contacting their family and friends over it. Now I would like to clarify that I would consider a line to be crossed if someone threatened me. Death threats, threats of violence, threats to rape me or hurt people I am close to I would take extremely seriously and I would seriously consider contacting the police. Some people would see this as an over-reaction but I don't take threats like that lightly and I don't think people should be able to get away with it.

In RL it really depends on what the abuse is. If someone is verbally abusive I would probably either have a go back or ignore them depending on the circumstances. It's hard to give a one answer covers everything. If it was a heated debate and the person started making personal insults directed towards me I would probably either respond back in kind, ask them to refrain from the personal insults and just keep to the topic at hand or simply say I am done with the conversation and remove myself from their vicinity. If everytime I ran into the person the same thing happened, I would try and avoid the person as much as possible as who needs that stress? The only way I would tell his friends and family is if I knew them personally and then I would probably mention how much of a dick the guy was, but they'd probably already know that. Obviously my response would be much different if I was threatened in anyway. If someone tried to escalate to physical abuse they would encounter much more than they anticipated.

I like you Lapka, I just see internet feuding as being ultimately a waste of time and energy. If you see something productive from doing it well that's your choice and I wish you all the best

Ok well he probably had it coming to a certain extent. I only entered the thread a few times and I always left really quickly because it was too abusive for me. I don't think I ever posted there from memory. BTW I've never actually ever been threatened with those things on the internet, so I don't consider it to be run of the mill stuff.
