Heinous to me is physical violence, sexual abuse etc I'm not going to list everything I find heinous but I imagine my views aren't dissimilar to most societal views on this. I don't think someone being verbally abusive on the internet is a heinous act and I certainly wouldn't think of contacting their family and friends over it. Now I would like to clarify that I would consider a line to be crossed if someone threatened me. Death threats, threats of violence, threats to rape me or hurt people I am close to I would take extremely seriously and I would seriously consider contacting the police. Some people would see this as an over-reaction but I don't take threats like that lightly and I don't think people should be able to get away with it.
In RL it really depends on what the abuse is. If someone is verbally abusive I would probably either have a go back or ignore them depending on the circumstances. It's hard to give a one answer covers everything. If it was a heated debate and the person started making personal insults directed towards me I would probably either respond back in kind, ask them to refrain from the personal insults and just keep to the topic at hand or simply say I am done with the conversation and remove myself from their vicinity. If everytime I ran into the person the same thing happened, I would try and avoid the person as much as possible as who needs that stress? The only way I would tell his friends and family is if I knew them personally and then I would probably mention how much of a dick the guy was, but they'd probably already know that. Obviously my response would be much different if I was threatened in anyway. If someone tried to escalate to physical abuse they would encounter much more than they anticipated.
I like you Lapka, I just see internet feuding as being ultimately a waste of time and energy. If you see something productive from doing it well that's your choice and I wish you all the best
