How wrong can you possibly be? How wrong can you possibly be?

List examples of cultural importance, where you flat out got it 100 percent wrong.

1999 I stopped over to my parents house for a quick visit. They were in their bedroom watching the Sopranos on HBO. I had seen a few preview clips about the show, but this may have been the first episode....first or second, for sure.

I was standing in the room, as they were sitting in the bed, and we were just having a little chat, watching a few minutes of the Sopranos. Growing up around gambling, though not among traditional mafia types like in the show, I certainly new enough about the culture to make a judgment about the Sopranos, and whether it would be a successful show.

I couldn't take any more watching the show, so I emphatically stated that: "this show cannot possibly be a success. It has no chance, and will be canceled soon. It is not a true depiction of what that life is like".

And the rest is history.

Three years earlier, I had been in the car with my father, driving with him and a few of his friends to play golf, when on the radio came an update on the Olympic bombing in Atlanta, which had happened days before, with the suspect being Richard Jewell. His name had been in the news for a week or so by that point, as the likely suspect. Someone in the car mentioned that maybe he didn't do it, and Richard Jewell had denied it, and the reports on the radio were raising the question. Of course I stated that obviously he was guilty, as the authorities would NEVER name someone publicly like this if there was any chance that he was innocent.

Needless to say, for a while after that, every time I made a statement to the group about anything, Richard Jewell came back to me....all in fun, but they got me good.

However, I did not make any statement about the Central Park Jogger Rapists in New York City back in the day. Five or so black youth/young adults were arrested and charged with the rape and beating of a white, and privileged Central Park Jogger. Of course they went to prison for many years, and of course years later they were totally exonerated and released, and I don't believe anyone really apologized for it. The lady who was raped, certainly did not apologize early on, though I recall she may have felt a bit of guilt later/recently. It was a huge national story, and Donald Trump, if memory serves me correctly, called them animals. So, I avoided being wrong on that issue, by keeping my mouth shut.

First time I watched Curb Your Enthusiasm I was too shook to embrace the cringe and finally I watched it again realized that LD is a comedic genius.

I remember when the Simpsons first came out. A group of my peers loved it, and would always sit around watching it. Because they loved it, maybe I didn't give it a chance, and didn't allow myself to watch it.

Fast forward many years, and though I am not sure I have ever watched a regular episode on television, I know enough about the show to realize that for my tastes, I was wrong to dismiss it. If "the crowd" hadn't loved it early, I may have been a big fan.

On the flip side, one thing that I will always be right about is that Jerry Seinfeld sucks. I will give him credit for having the hit show, but the guy is not funny, and in interactions and interviews I have seen with him through the years, he is awkward at best (see the Larry King clip on Youtube). He sucks....never watched the show, but feel that I have seen every episode, as I know most of the big stories and one liners that have withstood the test of time, so to speak. The guy rubs me the wrong way, and I don't think he has a good rep with other comics (if you dig below the surface and look under the hood). Whereas, a guy like Jay Leno is despised by many in the business, but his comedy is respected and Leno is considered one of the best stand ups.

I drunkenly bonded with these two blonde girls from socal in a hostel in amsterdam because we missed ranch dressing. I visited one of them in the SLO when we got back to the california. I had been forced to watch an epsiode of The O.C. with one of my friends back home. It was a particularly slow episode with almost soap opera like ****. When I was in SLO at dinner somehow The O.C. comes up.

I lay into this **** after only seeing one episode. We go back to her place, have beers and she tunes in for the newest episode of The O.C. I sheepishly sip my beer. I have since watched all four seasons and really like the show and whoever picks music for it.

I didn't like Seinfeld at first. Although now when I look back at those early episodes I still don't like them! They hadn't figured it out yet. So that just goes to show I'm always right, never mind.

I remember reading a Time magazine article in a doctors waiting room in the early 80's about two new female singers & it was an opinion piece on which one of them would become more famous.

The two girls they were referring to were Cyndi Lauper & Madonna. And the writer said hands down that Lauper would be the one to hit the big time.

I'm sure they probably have Time & all its articles archived on the net. Think I'll find it sometime and read it again. Funny the things u remember at times.

I also recently read about Tom Brady getting picked like 166th in the draft his year & his combine skills were awful. The article said he only beat out two guys at the combine in the vertical jump....and I think they were both the middle behemoths they use in the 3-4 defense.

When blockbuster first came out with a dvd shipping service, I thought Netflix was doomed. They had basically the same offering as netflix, except you could return a movie to the store and get a new one right away. One of the problems I always had with Netflix DVD subscription was by the time you got it in the mail, you were in the mood to watch something else. With blockbuster dvd by mail, that was no longer be an issue, as you could just drive to the store and swap it for something you wanted.

Man, and for a while if you had the "2 DVDs at once" plan, you could get them in the mail, return them to the store, AND pick up free movies at the store while waiting for the next ones from your queue to come in the mail. So it was basically double the movies. It was awesome.

I was unemployed for a bit when they had this program.

The first poker game we played in high school was limit hold'em with stakes of $.50 and $1. The consensus was that no-limit wouldn't be as much fun to play.

At least Lauper had a decent career. A local sportswriter (can't recall who, I assume he's homeless now) wrote an article in '98 about why Leaf would be a better QB than Manning.

Can't tell if your unemployment was the reason for, or the result of, watching a ton of movies.

Peter King (Sports Illustrated) ranked his top 10 WRs in the draft in 1998 and did not have Randy Moss on there. He added something like "If you're looking for Randy Moss he would not be on this list if it went 100 deep. He has no chance to get open vs NFL bump and run coverage"
