How to go on 4-6 hours of sleep a night?

Currently I sleep about 8-12 hours a day. I'm on medication that makes you tired, fat and basically non functional. Tried to speak to my doctors about it but they don't want to reduce the doses. Its for schizophrenia/bipolar so it suppose to stop voices and weird behaviors. Also the side effects of the medication/disorder is laziness, disorganisation and every thing else.

I'm going to go see the doctors again and tell them I wanna work 40-50 hours a week and play poker tournaments 0-8 hours every night of the week. on top of that I need to do some cardio, strength training and study for poker as well. Any one know if this is possible whether someone can go on 4-6 hours of sleep a night every night?

Most people need 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Some people can get by on 4-6 hours (but that's a wide range and it's generally closer to 6), but most can't. You probably can't, unless you have a proline-to-arginine mutation in your DEC2 gene and/or a mutation in your β 1-adrenergic receptor gene.

What I would do if I were on meds that were to treat disorders that were very much worsened by not getting a normal amount of sleep would be to not even consider doing something that would interfere with me getting enough sleep.

Maybe try new drugs? I can get by with 6 hours of sleep a night but only on the days where I'm incredibly sedentary.

active lifestyle = more food, sleep needed to maintain your lifestyle. Lebron James sleeps for 12 hours every night.

sedentary lifestyle = the opposite.

so the answer is to sit in your room and never exercise.

Don't be one of these idiots that deprives themselves of sleep. There are so many health and other problems associated with lack of sleep that you may as well just say screw it and stop watching your health. There was a sleep scientist on the Joe Rogan Experience that really everyone should listen to, basically lack of sleep messes with your brain and the rest of your body and long term you will jack your body up.

Alzheimer disease does not look fun.

6 hours of sleep is normally what I get. Sometimes less but hardly anymore than 6.

I've been getting 5-6 hours of sleep every night for the last 30yrs. Anything more than 7hrs and I feel like **** all day.

what specifically does it do that is harmful?

can you acclimate to being more tolerant of sleep deprivation? my idiot guess is that only over time it becomes toxic, and paired with stress it is not good, but acute situations of even extreme deprivation are similar to tripping on psychedelics.

1. It would help if you told us how much sleep you normally needed before going on the meds.

2. When you say "doctors" does that mean psychiatrist? General practitioner? Something else?

3. My gut reaction to your arbitrary fantasy of sleeping very little while doing a whole lot every day is it sounds like something someone would say if they were having a manic episode.

GP and psychiatrist although I don't see a psychiatrist any more. Everything is done with the GP. I have had a history of seizures as well and on meds for those that also make you tired alongside the schizophrenia pills. DOUBLE wham.

Best sleep I ever got was on Quetiapine. Woke up 12 hours later feeling like a brand new man. Only took it once though... can't imagine its good for you

I typically get 5-6 hours of sleep a night, then will get 8-10 randomly.

I take olanzapine and regularly have to sleep 12 hours. Trying to get up after 8 hours with an alarm is very very difficult. end up walking around tired for 2-3 hours.

Ahhh yes, a poker forum full of degenerates is definitely where'd I'd ask for advice about sleep and medications if I had a severe mental illness.
