EU if you live in SoCal then the healthcare available to you is as good as any in the world. You are completely wasting your money if you go to Korea. If you're paying $32k for some non-Western cure in Korea based in Traditional Chinese Medicine and not available through her insurance, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Whatever you've read about this treatment is not supported by rigorous empirical data. It has a placebo effect on some people, and the practitioner may even believe it works and isn't just trying to scam you, but it is 100% A WASTE OF YOUR MONEY, regardless of how many stories you find on the internet of "how it saved me and made me pain-free for the first time in my life."

Do not throw away money you don't even have on this snake oil. If she had a life threatening illness, such a "cure" could hasten her death, like it did with Steve Jobs. In her case it will just mean she has as much pain but you're out $32k.

Now if some leading world expert in whatever ails your sister from the UCLA medical center recommended this treatment, then obviously ignore what I said above, but if this is some treatment you found on your own through research on the internet or because your friend at work had a cousin who got it done and it cured her, then you are 100% throwing away your money.

Actually I have done the research. I've explained all that I am comfortable explaining on this board. If someone actually steps up to help and is serious, of course I can provide the paperwork I offered up previously. And most American doctors know that other countries have much better medical care than the US does. Only a few will actually admit it, however because it eats into their profits. I would never put my sister's health at risk over rainbows and daydreams. And I wouldn't put my own physical well-being in jeopardy over something I wasn't 100% sure would help her. By the way, Korea actually has government agencies that work on your behalf to help to get your money back and fix any issues, unlike the US. We're not going to quack doctors in little shady clinics, we're going to noted hospitals and doctors.

Not to mention that until I pay the money back, my life belongs to someone else. And I don't like that one bit.

I'm not a loan shark so I'm not going to give you any money either way, but would you mind sharing what sort of treatment your sister needs. I'm just curious what Korea does better than Cedars-Sinai or UCLA in LA and other places in the US like the Mayo Clinic or Johns Hopkins.

I've never really understood these things. If you can't just go to a bank and get a loan, how do you propose to pay back the money with a note that would require a far higher interest rate and even more onerous terms?

Edit - I see you have an inheritance coming, pieces of those can be sold for cash up front, although the fees are about as bad as a loan sharks.

I was thinking in terms of somebody borrowing thousands of dollars and then needing to pay it back in a few weeks. The paperwork on an inheritance would probably suffice for a bank loan. Tbab needed quick money for capping, which seems like a dangerous thing to do.

Probate was done a long time ago. There are about 5 things that were missed somehow and they just turned up. There is one that's rather large and that's before they even add the interest. I am the only person who the money is going to, so I don't have to fight anyone for it.

Bank loans aren't happening. I just checked my credit. It's not bad, but I had a lapse in medical coverage and had to go to the ER. I have one medical bill and one collection that's not even mine. I'm handling that tomorrow. Once I get my inheritance, I can pay off the medical bill. I'll offer to pay it in full, so I should be able to knock it down by half.

To give an answer to why we're going to Korea, their total approach to medicine is different than it is here, from General Anesthesia to aftercare. Everything they do is in the patient's best interest. American doctors are quick to put you under GA. Korean doctors aren't. They will do sedation, which is much safer. Especially for someone like my sister who undergoes surgeries often. Before surgery, they also do much more as far as sanitation goes by putting both the patient and all medical personnel through aseptic air showers. Which cuts down on any chance of infection. After care is second to none and it's all done for the good of the patient (and for free), not to tack on more money, like here in the US. Procedures that take months to heal from in the US take half the time in Korea solely due to their aftercare regimen. Here in the US, they tell you to stay in bed. In Korea, they encourage you to get up and walk around. In the US, they give you a bland diet, but nothing that actually aids in recovery. In Korea, they give you pumpkin and pineapple juice, which does cut your recovery time down. I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

Which is exactly why I am not doing that.

If her treatment in US is covered by insurance you are throwing away your money taking her to Korea. It's one thing if you're rich and $32k means nothing to you, but it's a shame to spend money you can't afford for health care that's probably inferior and at best equivalent to what's available to you in SoCal.

I'll make sure she gets all the pumpkin and pineapple juice she needs during her recovery for only $10k and save you $22k.
