How Bad Is This? Uber Uncleing Decision. How Bad Is This? Uber Uncleing Decision.

Taking a vacation with family in Calgary, AB, Canada (~1 million population). My 14 year old nephew brought his friend - same age - and the group of adults wanted to find stuff for them to do while they were here. So we found:

https://www.injanation.com/

However, it's a half hour away from the house. So one of us (not me obviously - I was drinking rye and mead already) ended up driving the two of them for this Saturday party thing at this jumpy trampoliney thing for a couple hours.

But **** driving both ways to get them afterwards. So we decided to get them an Uber back to the house.

Yay or nay?

I don't see anything wrong with Ubering both trips.

What did the 14yo boys do to be left at those trampolines, why so cruel

just tell them they have to get back home independently of each other and whoever gets there first wins $100. then the whole family can make bets on the outcome

Perfectly fine. I mean you're paying the drivers.

Completely fine

In before some serious technophobia. Hey guys, did you know an Uber driver assaulted their passenger this one time in 2014?

They actually wanted to go there and they're 14 lol? Are you sure there's not a festival or something fun on close by that they're actually going to?

Well instead of them playing rocket league all week (cause I don't want to get dummied by my diamond nephew) my aunt got them VIP access to this sweet club.

Now they're playing rocket league after I paid a $50 uber for them

there it is

So your sister raised so much hell about Uber that you had to start this thread.

Uncle Billy that boy is not just Tommy's friend, he is his best friend.

Also, it's probably important that neither kid had ever taken Uber before. Also neither kid is actually from Calgary.

I am sure that boys are having so much fun upstairs, playing Rocket League.

Because they are not allowed Fortnite, right.

I'm out, keep it going.

This would be perfectly fine if you were in a safe country like USA #1, but not in Canada.

They are 14 y.o. ! I would let them think about how they will get around. I am pretty sure they can use internet and google everything from public transportation to the uber and taxis.

It's against Uber policy for unaccompanied minors to ride on someone else's account. Did you notify the driver first that they would be picking up minors as soon as they accepted.

I let both my kids (14 and 16, eldest is 16) get Uber. I think its safer than public transport, given you know who the driver is.

That said, I'd have checked with the other kids parents first to make sure they were cool with it too.

FWIW, Uber has a feature where you can explicitly add your kids to your account so they can call their own rides and you can track them.

I was like "What? No way!" because I knew this was not previously true. And it would appear it still isn't, much to my chagrin. Legally unaccompanied minors are not allowed to ride. I looked up the family profile thing and they say "college age kids or older".

There's an "Uber for kids" called Hop Skip Jump that some people I know use.

OP, sending the nephew in an Uber is OK if the people responsible for him think it's OK. Were his parents there? Sending the friend and having his family find out about it later is probably not OK.

I'd use Uber black in this case, to greatly reduce the likelihood of getting a creepy driver, if that's your concern. Or Lyft premier.

Don’t see what the big deal is...not like there’s rideshare drivers sharing violent rape fantasies online or anything.

I'd rather have them Uber'd than have my drunk brother drive my kids around.
