there's a few threads on the flat earth forums about this, usually they just make something up on the spot. I'm not sure the exact consensus on this, because there's no unifying flat earth theory. Just a lot of youtoobz and conspiracy theories.
It's pretty impossible to debate someone that presents themselves from a "scientific" standpoint but does not believe in science, or even basic mathematical theory. I think that forum is at the point where at least half the people on there are just there to troll the flat earthers. To their credit though, they don't typically ban those people.
It's been a passing hobby/fascination of mine for a few years. I was raised to believe every kind of conspiracy theory from my mom, she's exactly that type of person. I never post on there but I'm fairly familiar with all the apologia. It's really fascinating and weird. I'm pretty sure it's like the "end stage" conspiracy theorist's conspiracy theory, when someone goes waaay too far down the rabbit hole. There's been a study about how belief in one conspiracy theory makes you more likely to believe other theories.
I kind of think it starts from a belief that the moon landing was fake, which explains all the weird NASA **** they believe.
