@gregorio
Thanks for that link, last time I tried something was sketchup and it was a little on the heavy side for what I wanted from it, this is perfect.

finished spreading out the gravel. i'm want to get a huge boulder with my street number carved on it eventually to put near the front and will also built a planter box for the right side, large enough to not walk away. i just need to swing open the gates once a year or so to get a bobcat in the back.

fubar on the plumbing, had to call someone. the fitting I bought does not fit properly. i was suppose to need to heat up the tube with a heatgun, but it slides right in loose. could end up being a nightmare if this feeder pipe is too ****ed up.

I spent this weekend rehabbing a shed on my property to use as a greenhouse. Replaced plywood and asphalt shingle roof on the south side with triple wall polycarbonate.

I still need to get it wired for power and install an exhaust fan and intake vent: it's already very hot in there.

I went for something like this in the end based of the example gregorio made, cost is super low as I can use some stuff I already have laying around (like the couch/desk/tables). Just have to buy the bookcase and the drawers. Will replace that regular couch with a sleepercouch later. The TV isnt showing up in 3de for some reason.

I have pretty heavy duty outside and inside screens on those windows and at least one of them is usually closed so I dont mind it too much. Its hardly possible to watch at a screen in that room without any sun blocking things anyway when the sun is up. It gets crazy hot there. Im actually in the proces of making big wooden panels that I can slide in front of the windows to stop the sun from coming in.

I may have to spring for floorplanner.com if only to help me with the front room. It is a long, somewhat narrow room with a large doorway perpendicular to the windows.

If code will allow me, I'd like to reduce the size of the current doorway that leads into the front hall and put a doorway from the kitchen into the front room. The issue will probably be the fact there is a large brick fireplace in the kitchen next to where the new doorway would go.

Floorplanner is free for your first project, and I think your entire home would be one project.

I actually have made my project 3 stories high (incl ground). You can make a design in each of those iirc.

Went and bought a washer/dryer combo to be delivered a week from Saturday. During the purchase, the salesman asked if we had a three or four prong outlet. I told him I was not sure and he said based on the age of the house, he thought it would be a three prong and gave me a brochure that showed what each type of prong looked like. Houston, we have a problem.

The outlet I have doesn't look like either picture. It has two diagonal slots with another vertical slot underneath what looks like an upside down triangle that is in the middle underneath the two diagonal slots.

Is this going to be a job for an electrician?

I did a drawing of what the outlet looked like, but it will be a couple of days before I can go back to where I bought the dryer to show them.

ideally, you need to change the outlet to four-prong. (new wire from panel)

Which means I do need an electrician.

i think changing the cord is fairly common.

Changing the cord is easy. There are probably directions in the user manual.

About halfway through a large-scale master bedroom and garage expansion through a contractor. Everything is above board and well documented. I'm guessing there's no way to leverage this into income tax breaks for 2015? I literally have no idea and am just wondering.

Things learned so far:

- Doing a project in the winter leaves you at the mercy of mother nature (I'm in the Northeast) but all-in-all it's still a net win since the GC is more attentive than he would be during peak season when he'd have more jobs to juggle

- Getting continued input from our architect after drawings has been useful and IMO worth the pretty nominal added cost

- Windows are hella expensive, as are window treatments. Way more than I'd expected, and I was expecting expensive from the get go. But closets can be reasonable and decent (we're using Container Store).

- If I had it to do over again, I'd have said no when the roofer (we folded in an entire new roof) asked me if I wanted the job done in one day. The workmanship is fine (GC was up there for a good hour to check), but the clean-up was rushed and there are still nails and debris everywhere. But my GC used that to get us 30% off the quoted price.

- If you do a project in the winter where it's cold and you use oil heat, tell your oil company so they can put you on a more frequent delivery schedule. We were nearly bone dry before I thought to check.

Those are just the few that come to mind right away.

Knocked out the first bit of landscaping on my new digs. Nothing too serious, just one of the flowerbeds on the walkway tot he front door.

The previous owner was a lazy sack of **** and filled all the flowerbeds with pebble stones, as you can see on the right side of the walkway. I started scooping the pebbles out of this one Saturday and very quickly realized how big a chore that was going to be. Not just removing them but finding a place to store or relocate them. I thought a big contractor bag would work, but no. About 1/4 of the way in that thing was so heavy I could hardly move it and the bottom tore out anyway. I ended up loading them in my wheelbarrow and dumping them in the current sandpit where the above ground pool used to be.

I called a few landscaping services and companies that sell rock by the truckload to try and find someone who wants to come and get them but nothing doing. "We deliver rock sir, we don't pick it up." Any ideas oin what I can do with this stuff? I have two more flower beds to remove them from, one of which is about 200 sq ft or more.

Anyways, I'm happy with how this one turned out. I planted 6 Hawaiian Tis and 12 Dianthus. That Dianthus should spread, but I may need to get some more or help propogate it myself.

Colombiana took these pics before I had finished filling it in with dirt and mulch.

I got a new roof done in one day and haven't noticed any debris. Of course, the previous owner was there so that may have had something to do with it.

either pile the rock up at the street end of the driveway with a free sign, or pop it on craigslist with an offer to help shovel into truck.

I had the same issue and tried exactly this except I had no luck. I ended up finding a secluded section in some woods near me and dumping them there. I dug a hole first so most went under ground a little. Probably not the best thing to do with them but oh well

I just saw a property with a totally unfinished basement. There was a utility sink, w/d, oil tank etc. One toilet out in the open to the entire basement, no framing for a room or anything it's just sitting there next to the utility sink. TP roll attached to side of sink.

Seller has a 3ba listing, considers it "the 3rd bathroom."

Deezy! Those floors look righteous! How hard would you say that job is for someone with zero experience? Doable? What equipment is required? What tips would you provide? Any specific pitfalls to beware of?

You have a 220 outlet, power/power/neutral; I think the 4th prong would be for a ground wire but it is not always needed. Once you get your washer and dryer look at the instructions, sometimes there is a spot for this situation.

You might have a ground wire in the box and it's attached to the metal electrical box, if so you can get a 4 prong outlet and wire it to it. Find your 2 breakers and shut them off first obviosly.
