On a different note, forum member pmanprays just purchased a condo:

Feel kind of stupid that I can't figure this out or find something, but any suggestions on a ramp for this? We want it as unassuming as possible. This isn't the best picture, but it's a slightly curved driveway ( back of a cul-de-sac). I have tried to find something, but what I'm running into is most ramps for for curbs. This is slanted, but it's too steep and the angle too straight for my car (or pretty much any car) to get up without scraping. I'm tired of parking oddly in front of the driveway, and my wife is converting from SUV to car, and she DEFINITELY won't want to do that.

Opened up the cabinet (2007 Trane XL80) and pulled out a filthy, original 1/3hp motor that was frozen solid. Back to the supply house, $127.55 and 90 mins later cool air is flowing again!
Pro-tip. Even if its 80 degrees when you replace the blower motor you should probably also test your heat. I did not.

First cold day we put the thermostat on Heat and the blower starts up but not getting any heat - pull the panel off and the burner not lit, checked the obvious like blocked condensation line, blocked air intake, blocked air outtake, gas line not open, etc - did a hard reset and nothing. Rechecked all the connections on the main circuit board and they seemed tight and correct.

Couple YouTube vids later and I am using a jumper on the 'High Limit Switch' which bolts to the metal blower assembly that would shut down the furnace if it runs too hot. Bingo - it kicks on and we have flame. Cost of the switch is $82 so I figure remove it, clean it, test it for continuity then clean and re-crimp the spade contacts. Back in business at a total cost of $0 and about an hour of troubleshooting.

Guessing a paid HVAC wouldn't have made this mistake since my initial disassembly is likely what caused this issue, but then again I have my doubts

I cant really make out what's the issue, is that a shadow or the bottom of a curb? May need another photo and maybe add a ruler or something for scale. I would think if you are just trying to limit the angle you could use a line of paver stones or similar

Porter,

Not sure I'm getting what you're after, but one thing to consider. If you end up pouring some concrete, or a similar solution that's permanent, might consider laying some PVC in there. Open at both ends to let rainwater drain off the way it does today.

What is the height and width of the asphalt ramp?

Did you put the asphalt ramp in? If so, how long has it been there for. I just ask because I’m curious if there is any depth into the roadway or if it just comes to a point. Typical minimum thickness for asphalt is 2”. Less than that an it will chip and crack easily

Typical minimum thickness for concrete is 4”. Pouring concrete would definitely involve excavation. Most people don’t realize this. In my state, on state roadways, you only see 4” or 6” of curb, but it’s actually 16” deep, minimum and sidewalks are 4” thick minimum.

Noticed a house in the neighborhood next door that laid some PVC under their little ramp. I'm sure they didn't do it up to code, seeing what you wrote.

well he shouldn't have to worry about water going down his driveway
leveling the pavers out a bit before sloping away could have helped as well, but it's also hard to tell where the drive is going

eta: On second thought, that might help there as it seems like a longer and more gradual transition than in Hey_Porter's pic.

I would think it depends on the distance from the front lip to the wheels.

That is probably the most frequent spot, but some cars will scrape between the front and rear wheels as well. Ask me how I know

If only the front lip scrapes, that would probably work.

I think it would prevent scraping of the front bumper (whatever is right below that), but do nothing for scraping the underside between the wheels (if that's what was happening).

edit: I see my pony was slow. I don't think this problem is fixable in any practical way. Scrape or park your Lambo somewhere else.

No second thoughts are necessary the angle of getting in and out of that driveway should alleviate the need for a ramp.

I just finished replacing a garbage disposal for the first time. Yee haa!

Now the money I saved from not having a plumber do it will be wisely invested in muscle relaxants and pain pills.

ruh roh. Not sure I kinked the hose up enough--or at all. I'll have to check that when my wife isn't around so as not to embarrass myself.

eta: Just checked and discovered why I didn't remember doing that--assuming I'm understanding you correctly. The last 1" or so is a thick rubber overlay on the end of the hose, so that is what I clamped to the disposal. It has been a few hours, we've run the dishwasher once, seen no leaks, and I'm very encouraged by my handiwork. *knock wood*

Yeah the kink just prevents backwash, but it's not a zomg gonna ruin everything immediately problem.

About two months ago I found a bunch of gnats? And awful smell from my parents dishwasher and that seemed to be the problem. They only at that home part time, though.
