Son of a Hollywood legend, Michael Douglas built his own name by taking on challenging roles, producing great scripts, and sporting a great head of hair. After a solid start in the 70's, Douglas hit his career high in the late 80's/early 90's before suffering a swift decline in the 00's. Michael Douglas' hair was truly a shooting star.

Michael Douglas in "Streets of San Francisco"

In his first significant role, Michael teams up with Karl Malden to fight crime in this American TV show. Michael's hair is properly 70's feathered, and fortunately does not suffer any ill effects of being in close proximity with Karl Malden's nose.

Michael Douglas in "The China Syndrome"

Mike grows his hair out for this one, and sports a fine beard. He makes Jane Fonda feel so physically insecure that she becomes an aerobics fiend, quits acting, and marries Ted Turner.

Michael Douglas in "Romancing the Stone"

Building off of the length, he plays a quasi-adventurer in this. Not sure if he was going crazy with the conditioner or what, but his hair was very lush and shiny in this. Michael becomes big box office draw, despite Kathleen Turner growing a penis afterwards.

Michael Douglas in "Fatal Attraction"

Great hair in this. Watch how naturally it flows when he dropkicks Glenn Close. Really super.

Psyche. That pic is from a play. Here's a real one. His hair looks a little sweaty, like he just got done banging Anne Archer. Sweet.

Michael Douglas in "Wall Street"

Honestly, if this was the only film he ever did, this would put him in the top 2 of my list. This do affected me so greatly that I slicked my hair back for two years in middle school after seeing this, and encouraged me to study finance in college. I used to wear out the scene on the VHS where Michael combs his hair in the sports club. Simply awesome. Unfortunately, I turned out to be more "Bud Fox" than "Gordon Gekko", but I digress. This hairstyle was truly iconic. Somewhere, Kurt Douglas smiles.

Michael Douglas in "Black Rain"

In this Ridley Scott pic, Mike goes with a long and shaggy do. His hair is of such high quality, that Andy Garcia, who had a great head of hair himself, doesn't even register. Multiple shots of Douglas riding helmetless on motorcycle with hair blowing in the breeze. Fantastic.

Michael Douglas in "Falling Down"

This hairstyle blew everybody away when Michael unveiled. Playing a mentally unhinged accountant, Mike rocks the flat-top and horned rim glasses like few before. Look at the profile of the flat-top in the picture above. Really exceptional.

Michael Douglas in "The American President"

Michael cleans it up in this flick, playing a bachelor President. Pretty indicative of his 90's work.

Michael Douglas in "The Ghost and the Darkness"

Douglas shows up with the length in this one, playing "the great white hunter" role. Unfortunately, Van Kilmer is saddled with a pretty pedestrian do, so no major fireworks occur on the set. But this is still a good hair movie overall.

Michael Douglas in "One Night At McCool's"

WTF! Douglas rocks the house with a sweet mullet in this mostly unknown flick. Look at the white walls on the side. Perhaps a last gasp at greatness...as a precipitous decline lurked ahead. Kirk Douglas is so shocked by this development that he has a stroke.

Michael Douglas in "The In-Laws"

This film is indicative of Michael Douglas' hair legacy in the 2000's. He really hit the wall right before he hooked up with Catharine Zeta-Jones. His hair begins thinning, and the hairline creeps ever so far back. He begins to resemble another famous guy.

Somewhere, Kirk Douglas drools.

Michael Douglas is honored for white-hot stretch in the 80's/90's, and we will remember his great hair fondly. Michael Douglas is #2 on my list of "Hollywood Hair Hall Of Fame".

I like this movie. Douglas is good in it, though I'm not a big fan of his work overall. I wasn't entirely convinced of Liv Tyler's hotness until I saw this movie, she is just smoking in this. Plus, Paul Reiser gets a dumpster dropped on his head.

Sam - if Douglas' hair doesn't start thinning and he retains the full coif of mid-90s, I think he's a serious contender for #1.

Andy - Sean Penn is a great suggestion, but both Pitt and Swayze have stronger hair performances throughout their careers IMO.

andyfox,

very deserving of the list but can you honestly say his hair is better than brad pitt's? hell, when my gf and her friends hear that brad pitt is going to be in an upcoming movie they don't ask what its going to be about, they ask if his hair is going to be long, short, shaved etc.--they don't ask these questions about sean penn (though he has remarkable locks).

If you're going to include Yul Brenner then you got to consider Charles Heston on a particularly good hair day.

Chuck Heston will get props if I ever get around to doing the "Hollywood Fake Hair Hall Of Fame" thread.

Another fantastic choice would be Steven Baldwin, although he hasn't had much of a career. His hair is phenomenal.

Matthew Modine,
Hugh Grant,
Brad Pitt,
Steven Baldwin...all worthy of a nod.

Actually, The Hair of the Baldwin Family might be a good offshoot as well.

Sure. The Breasts of the Arquette sisters. Patricia, Rosanna and sister in law Courtney. David can get everyone drinks and stuff.

Its looking likely that #1 will be revealed tomorrow. I'm working on it now, and it is turning into a career retrospective. I literally have to stop and marvel at this person's coif for 10 minutes after each picture I unearth. It is amazing.

Why haven't you nominated the fonz?

And to save another post, Travolta had pretty good hair in his yute. Recall a scene in Saturday Night Fever where he got pissed at his old man after his old man whacked him in the head. "Hey, watch the hair"

The Fonz is too cool for Hollywood.

I'm still pushing Gable:

Winkler will undoubtedly be on my "Hollywood Hair Hall of Fame: TV Edition" short list. I grew up in the 70's and 80's, so that list will be extremely hard to whittle down.
