Old Forester 100 proof, not the bottle in bond just the regular. Its affordable and not at all hard to find

How cheap is that?

I always thought for decent bourbon at an affordable price it was either Makers Mark or Elijah Craig

Buffalo Trace is top tier value. Eagle Rare is the more expensive cousin as well as Colonel EH Taylor. All Sazerac brands and can be hard to find depending on where you are.

Woodford is pretty basic bitch. You'll like Makers Mark, High West, Old Forester, Four Roses, Bulleit, probably lots of others.

I just started getting into Whiskeys around the new year so pretty noob to the journey, but just now getting into more "full flavor" bottles with high ABVs.

Currently I'm drinking Dexter 3 wood bourbon and a Copper and Cask selection from my local. Both are deeeeelicious

What do you guys think about the following two cocktails, would you order them and which one sounds better to you?
(FWIW, WhistlePig 10 is rye not bourbon)

1.
WhistlePig 10 years fat-washed
Apricot brandy
Peanut-butter beer-syrup
Angostura bitters

2.
WhislePig 10 years
Orange juice
Peychaud bitters
Old times bitter
Veuve Clicquot Champagne

Full disclosure: both sound unappealing to me and also like a waste of a crazy overpriced whisky.

It's cheap. It's drinkable. I bought a bottle a few years ago, and I did eventually drink the whole thing, but I didn't love it.

I did think they gave a solid distillery tour in Louisville because they have the richest history in the industry.

If my only option was these two, I'd go #2, but I agree with your conclusion entirely. If you hand me a nice cocktail on the house I'll drink it, but Bourbon really doesn't need to have its flavor masked unless you're going bottom-shelf and drinking Jim Beam.

Sneaky good summer coctail:

Big ol cheap bottle of whiskey, the bigger the better
A Gallon of Cranberry Juice
Half a box of Tazo Passion Tea

Combine ingredients with 60oz of water, steep liberally

Unappealing, indeed. Send these to How To Drink and see if he makes a face when he makes them.

2>>>1 for those cocktails but I can't imagine how bleak the other drinks choices would need to be for me to order either

For American whisky there's a Mint Julep with Woodford Reserve and a Sour with Wild Turkey 101, lemon juice, beer syrup, peychaud bitters, angostura bitters and fee foam. Both really good imo.

The sour would work for me. I like sweet/tart combinations in my cocktails

I like me a good mint julep, but that better mean fresh mint, not some "mint julep mix."

Woodford Reserve, mint leaves, sugar syrup. (that one is on the actual menu)

Woodford Reserve is okay, but I kind of doubt I'll ever buy another bottle of it. Super generic.

The last two cocktails got exactly the feedback I thought they would get. So let's try another one:
Angels Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Averna Amaro Siciliano
Osborne Pedro Ximénez Sherry
Orange Bitters

Honestly no idea if I'm going to like that one or not.

Would take that over the ones you previously named, but I’m especially fond of Angel’s Envy.

I found Angel's Envy to be quite disappointing. I expected a lot more from it. A friend who tasted it with me was even more negative, saying it tasted artificial to him. I didn't get that, but I got no depth at all, and the flavor was kind of like a dessert rum, in that it made me I wonder if they added sugar post-distillation.

I just bought a Boston shaker after years of being generally dissatisfied with the cobbler. Can't wait for my first mishap!

anyone ever had Bowsaw Small Batch bourbon?

Never heard of Bowsaw

I've kind of fallen in love with the four roses single barrel select. Its my favorite pour right now.

Also been drinking on a 1792 full proof barrel pick, Copper and Cask MK-150, and some angels envy rye rum barrel that is oily and fruity for days.

Just picked up the Kirkland Signature Bottled-In-Bond by Barton 1792, 1 L for 23.99. I think you can't go wrong at that price point.

In the more midrangey department, the Frey Ranch Farm Strength was 79.99 for 750 ml. Pretty nice if you like it hot

I hear the Kirkland single barrel is pretty good.

Green River is fantastic if you like a sweeter profile. Dark fruits throughout the nose and all aspects of the pallet.

Was able to buy a couple of Woodford Reserve Master Collection bottles the other day. Nice to add to the collection. Also picked up a 16 year 140(!) proof MGP bottling from a local distillery for 100$. Very excited to try that.

The collection is getting a bit out of control.
