Homemade iced coffee this morning and it's fan****ingtastic! I used the med roast w notes of vanilla, butterscotch and I forget wtf else. Cooled it a little in the fridge, added cream and a **** load of ice. It was delish and smoooooth but I couldn't detect any flavor notes. It's 2pm here and I just brewed the dark roast...notes of raisin, chocolate, pepper, mesquite etc. should be fab.

Last time I made cold brew I don't think I used enough coffee and it wasn't good. Made another batch overnight with 4:1 ratio which seems standard and it was much better. Not sure if I can tell the difference vs regular brewed. Maybe I'll do a side-by-side comparison tomorrow.

Rats, I should do cold brew. 4 parts water to 1 part coffee? Then sit in fridge overnight?

I left it on the counter overnight but fridge is fine too. I've read everything from steep for maximum of 16 hours or it gets bitter, to steep for 16-24 hours. I steeped mine for about 20 hours. America's Test Kitchen says 24 hours. They also say add salt . Apparently it's twice as strong as hot brewed coffee so cut it with cold water/ice/milk to drink. It will keep in the fridge for 1-2 weeks.

For cold brew I always use twice the amount of ground coffee I would use for regular coffee. That's usually 4 tablespoons per cup of water.

Google tells me there are 16 tbsp in a cup so that's another vote for 4:1 ratio. How long do you steep? In or out of fridge?

I've got my cold brew steeping on the counter. 5 cups water, 20 TBL coffee. Hopefully it's supposed to look like this? Strain in morning?

12-16 hours in the fridge, depending on when I have time to prepare it in the evening and when the boy makes me get up.

If there's less time, I let it sit on the counter overnight. That takes less time since it's warmer.

Looks good to me! Make sure to not apply too much pressure when straining it unless you want your coffee on the bitter side.

That "Snacks 0%" makes me sad. No treats on the weekend? Last night we went to a new pretzel bakery and I made some homemade cheese dip and guacamole. Needless to say I ate a quarter pound of cheese and tons of tortilla chips after the pretzels where gone. That stuff is still working in my belly which is prolly bad news for my 12 mile run in an hour.

Mmmm that sounds good, now avocadoes are in today's shopping list. I posted those charts here in error. They were meant to go in the H&F thread. I'm trying to up my protein without upping calories so the snacks had to be sacrificed, plus big dinner.

I bought only 1 cold brew all weekend and made all of the others I consumed.

On the fence about making cold brew vs just good ole coffee that's cooled down.

The cold brew took 18 hours to steep which isn't so bad, but I made a mess straining it. Grinds, grinds everywhere...

Cold brew was a little better than the coffee I was making via french press and cooling, but I don't know that I could detect the difference unless they were side by side. (Yes, I'm such a nerd I tried them side by side yesterday.)

There are some interesting cold brew coffee kits on Amazon - think big coffee tea bag which eliminates the straining mess.

You can make the cold brew in your french press and then pour it into another carafe without pushing down the plunger filter (or whatever the correct term for that thing is). Might take a couple minutes to get all out, but works perfectly for me.

Oh you're right! Duh, I should've thought of that. Much less mess and I'm thinking I'd push down on the plunger a bit anyway.

Just be aware that pushing down the plunger will release bitters from the ground coffee.

Not having those bitters is one of the main reasons for many people to drink cold brew

My first instinct was to say "2" but let's break it down.

Being optimistic, let's start with 10:

10
-1 People often mispell my name as Jose, so I'd be Jose Josem (no way jose)
-1 Reminds me too much of Casey Kasum
-1 Don't like how it sounds
-1 He has one of those uber thick beards
-1 On his website there's lots of brags but poker link is EMPTY
+1 He's a foodie
+1 He made an omelette in a sous vide

Answer is Lucky 7!

Oh I feel really sorry for James. He sounds mentally ill and lonely. Poor guy.

Having seen the beard in person, I think you should deduct more points.

ps, I love the irony that you started this thread to complain about doing surveys, but post a review of every cup you make at home.
