You don't think Sioux City has a real winter? LMAO. Where are you from, the Yukon? Are you Brad Booth?

I grew up in southern Minnesota. Average high about 10 degrees cooler than Sioux City. I also spent four winters in Grand Forks, ND where it was about another 10 cooler than that. I will admit that as I get older I want warmer. I ain't spending the winter anywhere close to what Sioux City has for weather. I visit family in the summer.

Central Iowa winters are pretty weak for the most part. Sure it's cold but it doesn't slow all that much anymore.

Latest runs of the GFS and Euros for IRMA are horrifying if you live in Florida. 140-160 hours to landfall. Direct hit to all of South Florida as what is looking more and more like a sure bet for a cat 5

I hope for everyone's sake it turns away or looses some strength but it's got nothing but clear hot water in front of it to build on

Welp guess its my turn in FL. Irma not looking good at all. Looking like Donna track from 1960.

Some seriously bad posters in here by the way. We gonna blame climate change for this crap? Guess what, in a hurricane .. it rains. A lot. When they literally stop on top of you and just dump rain on your head for 3-5 days and you're in any coastal city, it sucks pretty bad.

Obviously climate change.

Not going to get in to whether recent hurricanes are caused by climate change or not as I don't think anybody knows but that chart on the frequency of hurricanes you have shown is completely meaningless in supporting your point.

It does not address the intensity of hurricanes and only limits the data to the US.

As opposed to the data that people used as proof of climate change which was data for one Hurricane that hit Texas and Louisiana. It's ****ing laughable.

What's even funnier is that they continue to argue that climate is changing, something that is actually not even being debated. Next step, figure out how to use "the earth is round" as a way to get votes.

Somewhat surprised to not see much talk about Irma on here. 175mph winds right now and apparently still strengthening. I am not looking forward to this, though I am certainly glued to Weather Underground to see how badly my state is going to be messed up.

honestly ohio and michigan and rest of the great lakes region is proly the best place to be when the apocalypse hit due to manageable weather, no real natural disaster threats, and abundance of fresh water.

so ya, in like 200 years this property will be prime real estate.

Harvey talked didn't really start around here until after it hit.. If you are looking for up to date info at all times including all the latest forecast model runs... Check out the subreddit "tropicalweather"

They have a very active community of people with a lot knowledge about hurricanes. Could be quite helpful to you living in an affected state. Leading up to and during landfall there will be a live thread with up to the minute news and information helpful to those in affected areas

Thanks for the tip on the link. I'm on the East Coast of Florida about midway up the state. This is pretty scary. I'm hoping the worst will stay to the west. Doesn't seem like the math would add up in terms of evacuees vs hotel rooms. That coupled with the fact that you don't know exactly which direction to head makes it pretty rough.

If I personally lived anywhere in south Florida I'd be on my way northwest out of the state by tomorrow. The roads are going to be a nightmare later this week if this stays on its course

It's now officially a category 5 with SUSTAINED winds of 175mph (HO LEE ****) and gusts measuring 212+

Miami going to get obliterated if it has wind speeds that high when this thing hits

National Hurricane Center just tweeted that Irma is now the strongest storm ever recorded in the Atlantic outside of the gulf and Caribbean sea.

Seriously, a million times this. The poster saying he's going to "ride it out" - reconsider. This isn't some rain shower you hunker down for.

The thing is, where do you go? Worst case there is no place in the entire state to go. East coast? What if it goes west? This thing is a beast and you would have to go to Iowa or somewhere to be sure. Once you are reasonably sure which way to go, you'll be stuck on a highway with everyone else.

I'll be in a concrete building, 2nd floor, with hurricane windows. I'm not sure if there is a better option.

Make sure you go to the store and buy plenty of toilet paper and milk. At least that's what they do here for snow storms.

ETA: And bread. Don't forget bread.

milk and bread are perishable when the power goes out. stock up on water and boxed meals. and alcohol.

Feel bad for these people that know it's coming but don't have much means to get out of its way.

I recommend the kind of bread that doesn't need to be refrigerated.

What about your car? What about have no power for potentially weeks? idk, I think I'll prefer hanging out in Atlanta dealing with a tropical storm in a dry hotel.
